Footnotes generally appear at the bottom of a page in a document, or, below the page content, to annotate the contents of the document; Endnotes are at the end of a section or document to illustrate the referenced literature.
Here's a footnote for an example to see how they are used. The steps to add footnotes are as follows:
1. Place the insertion point where you want to add a footnote.
2. Execute insert → footnote and endnote to open the Footnote and Endnote dialog box.
3. Select footnote in the location selection, click Open the Drop-down list box, and select the location where the note text is placed.
4. In the format selection, set the format of the footnote. Here you can customize the tag, and the custom character (or string) acts as the annotation reference mark, and if you define it, the numbering format and start numbering will all turn gray.
5. In the Apply changes to Drop-down list, select the document range to which you want to apply this setting.
6. Click the Insert button to insert the note reference mark for the footnote in the document, by default, this character or string will be placed in the same font as the cursor, but the font size becomes smaller and is formatted as superscript. The cursor is automatically moved to the footnote area, waiting for the comment text to be entered. When the note text is finished, click anywhere in the document to continue working on the body.
Attention:
1. Footnotes consist of two components: the annotation reference mark and its corresponding annotation text, which are linked to each other. Position the pointer over the annotation reference mark, and double-click the annotation reference mark to automatically transfer the insertion point to the comment text area; Double-click the tag in front of the note text to automatically move the insertion point to the annotation reference mark.
2. If you are using a preset number, you can use only one number format in a section, and when you insert a new footnote, the number is automatically numbered, and the sequence of numbers is determined by the order in which the footnotes appear in the document.
Endnotes are added in roughly the same footnote as footnotes, and no longer repeat.
