Getting Started with Word animation tutorial 100: inserting an index

After you mark an index entry, you can create the index by following these steps:

1. Position the insertion point where you want to insert the index (the index is generally placed at the end of the document).

2. Execute "Insert" → "reference" → "index and table of contents", open the Index and Table of Contents dialog box.

3. Set in the Index tab, from the Print Preview box, you can view the specific effects of the settings.

In the Type column, select Indent, and the secondary index entry is indented to the right relative to the primary index entry, and the primary and secondary index entries are on the same row when you select???. When arrangement is selected, the right-aligned page number check box and the tab leader Drop-down box are dimmed and cannot be selected.

In the Number of columns box, specify the number of columns to index.

In the Language drop-down box, select Chinese to sort the index entries by stroke or pinyin.

In the Format box, select a style. If you select an item other than from template, and the language is Chinese, the Category box is activated to specify the collation of the index entry, and if the From template item is selected, the index is inserted by default, and the Modify button in the lower-right corner is activated, and click to customize the index style ( The specific process is demonstrated in the animation.

Note: In the Style dialog box, 9 index styles are listed, where Index 1 manages the primary index entries, index 2 manages the subordinate index entries, and so on.

4. Back to the index and Table of Contents dialog box, if you selected indent in the type, select the page number right option under the Preview box to align the page numbers in the right alignment. When this item is selected, the following tab leader item is activated, and a leader is selected to separate the index entry from the page number.

Note: An index is an indexed field that generates an index based on the contents of an XE field, and it is important to update the index item text in the index tag if it is modified.
