I. Preparations

1. Ghost is a famous backup tool.DoSSo you need to prepareDoSOne boot disk (for example, 98 boot disk)

2. Download The ghost8.0 program, which is 1.362 K in size. All major software stations have free download. We recommend that you download the program and copy it to a blank floppy disk, if your hard disk has a partition in the format of FAT32 or fat file system, you can also put it in the root directory of the partition to facilitateDoS.

3. To reduce the volume of backup files, we recommend that you disable System Restoration and sleep,ClearTemporary files and junk filesVirtual MemorySet to a non-system zone.

Ii. Use ghost8.0 to back up partitions

Use ghost for system backup, with the entire hard disk andPartitionHard Disk. The following uses backing up my C drive as an example. We recommend that you use ghost to back up your C drive after it is installed (reinstalled) to prevent unexpected events. We will return you a new system in 10 minutes after it is restored! Ghost8.0 supports fat, FAT32, and NTFS file systems.

Set the soft drive as the first boot disk.DoSBoot Disk restarts the computer to enterDoS.

After logging on to the DOS console, you can obtain the DOS boot disk and then insert it to a floppy disk containing ghost.exe. Enter "ghost" in the prompt "A: \> _" and press enter to start the ghost program, as shown in figure 1.

Figure 1 shows the program information. Press the Enter key to display the main program interface, as shown in figure 2.

Figure 2 open the program menu

The main program has four available options: Quit (exit), help (help), options (options), and local (local ). Click "local" in the menu. There are three sub-items in the menu displayed on the right. "disk" indicates backing up the entire hard disk (that is, cloning the hard disk), partition indicates backing up a single partition of the hard disk, check indicates checking the hard disk or backup file, and checking whether the backup or restoration may fail due to partition or hard disk damage. Here, I want to operate on the local disk. Select Local. By default, select "local" (the font turns white), press the right arrow key to expand the sub-menu, and select with the up or down arrow keys, select "local"> "partition"> "to image" (do not select an error in this step), as shown in figure 3.

Confirm that "to image" is selected (the font turns white), and press enter to display it, as shown in figure 4.

Figure 4 select a local hard disk

The hard disk selection window is displayed, because I only have one hard disk, so I don't need to select it. Press the Enter key, as shown in Figure 5.

Figure 8 file name

Select the partition and directory path for the backup and enter the name of the backup file. There are five boxes: select the partition in the top border (look JN), select the directory in the second (largest), and enter the name of the image file in the third (File narne, note that the image file name carries the gho extension name. The fourth file of type (default value: gho) file type does not need to be changed.

First, select the partition for storing the image file: press the tab key to switch to the top border (look JN) about 8 times to display it in white lines, as shown in figure 9.

Press enter to confirm the selection, as shown in figure 10.

Figure 10 drop-down menu

The partition list is displayed. No partitions to be backed up are displayed in the list. Note: The partition drive letter (c, d, e) displayed in the list is different from the actual drive letter, but the drive letter is followed by (that is, the second partition of the first disk) as in practice, pay attention when selecting a partition. To store the image files in sufficient partitions, I will use the f drive of the original system. Here I will use the downward arrow key (E: 1: 4 fat drives) the fourth partition of the first disk (whose font is white), as shown in 11.

After selecting the score, press enter to confirm the selection, as shown in Figure 12.

Figure 12 partition content

After you select a partition, the Directory of the partition is displayed in the second box (maximum). You can further confirm whether the selected partition is correct from the displayed directory list. If you want to store the image file in the directory of this partition, you can select the directory with the downward arrow key and press enter to confirm. I want to put the image file in the root directory, so I don't need to select a directory. I directly press the tab key to switch to the third box (file name), as shown in Figure 13.

Enter the image file name here. I want to back up the XP system of drive C. Enter cxp. gho as the image file name. Note that the image file name contains the gho extension name, as shown in figure 14.

Figure 14 starts with an image name

After the image file name is entered, you do not need to enter the following two boxes. Press enter to prepare for backup, as shown in Figure 15.

Figure 15 prepare for backup!

Next, the program will ask whether to compress the backup data and give three options: No indicates not to compress, fast indicates that the compression ratio is small, and the backup speed is faster (recommended ), high means that the compression ratio is high, but the backup execution speed is quite slow. If you do not need to perform backup and recovery operations frequently, you can choose a high compression ratio. It takes 3 to 5 minutes to complete, but the image file size can be reduced by about 700 mb. Select high with the right arrow key, as shown in Figure 16.

After selecting the compression ratio, press enter to start backup, as shown in figure 17.

The entire backup process generally takes five to ten minutes (the length of time is related to the data volume on the C disk, hardware speed, and other factors), as shown in 18.

Iii. Use ghost8.0 to restore the partition backup

If the partition data that has been backed up in the hard disk is damaged, it cannot be repaired using the common data restoration method, and cannot be started after the system is damaged, you can use the backup data for full recovery without re-installing the program or system. Of course, you can also restore the backup to another hard disk.
Start to enter the main program screen, as shown in Figure 23.

Figure 32 cloning completed

Remove the floppy disk. Press enter to restart the computer! After it is started, you can see the effect. After the restoration, the system is exactly the same as the original backup, and the disk fragment is also free.

Note: Back up your existing system's "custom dictionary of input method, anti-virus software (to avoid further upgrades), my folder, and QQ folder" before recovery"

Suggestions before backup:
1. Transfer or delete page files
Ii. Disable sleep and System Restoration
3. Delete unnecessary font libraries and temporary files
4. Scan disks and clear disk fragments
5. Register MSN and anti-virus software
