Cloning software ghost basic tutorial

1. What is ghost?

Ghost is an outstanding hard disk backup and restoration tool launched by Symantec, supports partitioning and hard disk backup and restoration in multiple hard disk partition formats, such as fat16, FAT32, NTFS, and os2. Clone software.

1. Features: Since it is called a clone software, it indicates that the backup and restoration of its ghost are carried out in units of the hard disk sector, that is, the physical information on a hard disk can be completely copied, instead of simply copying data, clone humans can only clone the body, but this ghost can clone all the stuff in the system, including audio animated images, and even disk fragments can help you copy, better than clone :). Ghost supports direct backup of a partition or hard disk to a file with the extension. gho (Symantec calls this file an image file). It also supports direct backup to another partition or hard disk.

2. Run GHOST: So far, ghost only supports the DOS running environment. This is not a pity :(. We usually copy the ghost file to the boot floppy disk (USB flash drive), or burn it into the boot disc. after entering the DOS environment with the boot disk, enter the ghost at the prompt and press enter to run the ghost, the first thing that appears is about the interface

Press any key to enter the ghost operation interface. The ghost menu appears. There are four main menu items, namely, quit (exit), options (option), and peer to peer (point-to-point, it is mainly used in the Network) and local (local ). Generally, we only use the local menu items. There are three sub-items: disk (hard disk backup and restoration), partition (disk partition backup and restoration), and check (Hard Disk detection ), the first two features are the most commonly used. The following operations are described here.

3. Because ghost copies data by sector during Backup and restoration, be careful not to mistake the target disk (partition) or partition the target disk) it's terrible to erase all the data ...... There are not many recovery opportunities at all, so be sure to be serious and careful! But you should not be too nervous. In fact, ghost is easy to use. If you understand the meaning of those words, you will understand its usage. With a serious attitude, you will surely be able to master it! Come together :)

Ii. partition backup

Prerequisites: understanding words
Disk: you do not need to say that you know what disk means;
Partition: partition. in the operating system, each drive letter (after drive c) corresponds to a partition;
Image: an image is a ghost file format that stores the content of a hard disk or partition. The extension is. gho;
To: In ghost, to is simply understood as "backup;
From: In the ghost, a simple understanding of from is ...... Meaning.

(1) Introduction to the partition menu

There are three sub-menus:
To partion: copy a partition (source partition) to another partition (target partition). Note that the target partition space cannot be smaller than the source partition space during operations;
To image: Back up a partition into an image file. Note that the partition for storing the image file cannot be smaller than that for the source partition, preferably larger than the source partition;
From Image: restore a partition from an image file (restore the backup partition ).

(2) create a partition Image File

1. After running ghost, use the cursor direction key to move the cursor from the "local" via "disk" and "partition" to the "to image" menu item, and press Enter.

2. Select the local hard disk Window and press Enter.

3. Select the source partition window (the source partition is the partition you want to make it into an image file)

Use the up/down cursor key to locate the blue stripe to the partition where we want to create the image file. Press the Enter key to confirm the source partition we want to select, press the tab key to move the cursor to the OK key (the OK key becomes white), and then press the Enter key.

4. Go to the image file storage directory. The default storage directory is the directory where the ghost file is located. Enter the image file name in the file name field, you can also include the path input file name (in this case, make sure that the input path exists; otherwise, an invalid path is prompted), for example, enter D: \ sysbak \ cwin98, saves the image file cwin98.gho to the d: \ sysbak directory. After the file name is entered, press Enter.

5. The "whether to compress the image file" window appears, including "No (no compression), fast (Fast compression), and high (high compression ratio)". The lower the compression ratio, the faster the storage speed. Select fast. move the cursor to the right and press enter to confirm;

6. A Prompt window appears, move to "yes" with the cursor direction key, and press enter to confirm.

7. Ghost starts to create an image file.

8. After the image file is created successfully, a prompt is displayed, indicating that the image is created successfully.

Press enter to return to the ghost interface;

9. Press the Q key and press enter to exit the ghost.

Now, the partition image file has been created! It's also quite simple :).

3. restore partitions from image files

After the image file is created, we can restore it after the system crashes, and restore it to the system status when the image file is created. The following describes how to restore an image file.

(1) In dos, enter the directory where the ghost is located and press enter to run the ghost.

(2) After the ghost main menu appears, move the cursor to the menu "Local-partition-from image" and press Enter.

(3) The "mirror file restore location window" appears ", enter the complete path and file name of the image file at file name (you can also use the cursor arrow key and Tab key to select the path of the image file and enter the file name, but it is troublesome), such as D: \ sysbak \ cwin98.gho, and press Enter.

(4) When the select Source partition window appears from the image file, press Enter.
(5) Select the local hard disk Window and press Enter.

(6) The select target partition from hard disk Window appears. We use the light tag key to select the target partition (that is, the partition to which the disk is to be restored), and press Enter.

(7) In the question window, select YES and press enter to confirm. Ghost starts to restore the partition information.

(8) The restoration will be completed soon. In the restored window, select reset computer and press enter to restart the computer.

Now the partition is restored. Is it very fast :).
Note: When selecting the target partition, be sure to select the correct one. Otherwise, the original data of the target partition will disappear ......

Iv. Hard disk backup and Restoration

The sub-menu items under the disk menu of ghost can be used to directly copy the hard disk to the hard disk (Disk-to disk), and the hard disk to the image file (Disk-to image) disk-from image ).

When the configurations of multiple computers are identical, we can install the operating system and software on one computer first, then, use the copy-on-disk function of ghost to completely copy the system to other computers. In this way, the installation of the operating system is much faster than the traditional method :).

The usage of the disk menu of ghost is similar to that of partition, and there are not many options, so we will not go into details here.

V. Ghost usage plan

1. Best Solution: after installing the operating system and various drivers, install common software (such as antivirus software, media playback software, and office software) on the disk where the system is located, install various updates for the operating system and common software, optimize the system, and then start the system disk with the boot disk to the DOS for clone and backup of the system disk, note that the backup disk size cannot be smaller than the system disk size!

2. If you think of cloning backup after installing the system for a while due to negligence, it doesn't matter. You 'd better clear the junk files on the system disk before backing up, clear the junk information in the Registry (we recommend that you use the Windows optimization master), sort out the system disk fragments, and then perform clone backup under DOS.

3. Under what circumstances should we restore the cloned backup?
When you feel that the system is running slowly (at this time, most of the reasons are due to frequent installation and uninstallation of software, residual or accidental deletion of some files, leading to system disorder) when the system crashes and the virus is hard to be eliminated, You Need To clone and restore it! Sometimes, if you haven't sorted out disk fragments for a long time and you don't want to spend more than half an hour or even longer, you can directly restore the cloned backup, which is much better than simply sorting out disk fragments!

4. Emphasize that you must select the target hard disk or partition during Backup and restoration!
