Google today announced the introduction of a compact version of the map engine for ordinary users (Maps Engine Lite), which any map enthusiast can use to create and share custom maps. Previously, Google's map engine (Maps Engine) was open only to corporate users.

Google's current compact version of the map engine is still a beta version. Google said that through this compact version of the map engine maps Engine Lite, any map enthusiast through this powerful, easy-to-use tool to make customized Google Maps. The user can upload a small spreadsheet and make it appear on a map and compare it to three different datasets. At the same time, Google stressed that the tool could not be used for commercial purposes.
To help familiarize users with the tool, Google also provides a textbook guide page that shows how to convert a set of data into a custom map. In addition, the compact version map provides 150 different icons for users to mark different locations.
Google has previously launched a similar map customization tool, my Maps. Google says the tool will remain in place for the time being, and users can import the data into the compact map engine, but later my maps will be progressively integrated into the compact map tool.
