Graphic tutorial on Nic speed no longer frequently changing LAN transmission speed upgrading

Currently, many organizations have built internal lan. Most enterprise networks use twisted pair wires to connect to NICs for communication. Among them, twisted pair wires generally use 5 types of lines with a transmission rate of 100 MB. There are some differences between NICs. Many NICs adopt 10 Mbps/mbmps adaptive NICs, that is, the transmission rate automatically matches between 10 MB and MB. For such NICs, theoretically, a file of a dozen MB can be transmitted within several seconds, but it is actually relatively slow to transfer, especially when a file with a small capacity is transferred, its relative time is exceptionally long. What is the cause of this phenomenon? In fact, it is all about adaptive Nic.

I. Error Cause Analysis

A 10 MB/MB adaptive Nic is used. When a file transfer request is sent, the system automatically communicates with the target Nic to select a suitable transmission rate.

If the speed of the Peer ENI is MB, the adaptive Nic matches the same speed for transmission. If the peer ENI is 10 MB, the adaptive Nic selects 10 MB. Such matching communication often needs to be carried out multiple times to ensure the stability of signal transmission.

Because of multiple negotiations, this will take a certain amount of time. When a small file is transferred, the relative time is relatively long, and the transmission speed is obviously slow, the larger the volume of the transmitted file, the smaller the relative time it takes. Therefore, we can see that the adaptive Nic has a major impact on network information transmission in small capacity. On the network, most of the transferred file packages are smaller than 1 MB, so the impact on the overall network performance is still relatively large.

2. Fixed the speed

From the above introduction, we can see that the cause of slow speed is that the transfer rate needs to be matched before transmission. If we fix the speed of the NIC, we can skip this step and directly transfer it.

Which method is used for transmission? This must be determined based on the network structure. Generally, there are two modes. If the computer in the network generally uses 10 M/M Adaptive or most of them are m NICs, we recommend that you directly use MB full duplex rate for transmission; if some nodes in the network still adopt a 10 m NIC (it is estimated that there are few), or the network transmission rate is not stable enough, it can also be reduced to 10 MB to ensure the stability of network transmission.

In the system, it is very easy to set a 10 M/M Adaptive Nic rate. You only need to right-click the "Network Neighbor" icon on the desktop to open its Properties window. Here, you can view the local connection icon and open the "local connection" attribute window again, on the top of the "General" tab, you can see the network card brand and model of "use during connection". Click "Configure" (figure 1) to open the hardware Properties window for the network card, switch to the "advanced" tab and select the "connection type" option in the property list. Generally, the default value is "auto-negotiation", which means automatic adjustment is made at 10 m/m. In normal cases, we should select "100 basetx full duplex", that is, 100 Mbps/Full Duplex (figure 2 ).

TIPS: the prompt may be slightly different depending on the network adapter. For example, if you use an Intel (r) Pro/100 ve network adapter, its attribute is displayed as "link speed and duplex" in Chinese ", you can search by network card when setting.

With this simple setting, you can change the network transmission file waiting time, transmission rate instability, and other conditions to restore the network. If you are troubled by such problems, do not try the methods described by the author.
