Currently, there are three main versions of Hadoop that are not charged (all foreign vendors), respectively:
Apache (the most original version, all distributions are improved based on this version), the Cloudera version (Cloudera ' s distribution including Apache Hadoop, abbreviated CDH), Hortonworks version ( Hortonworks Data Platform, referred to as "HDP")
Hortonworks Hadoop differs from other Hadoop distributions (such as Cloudera) in that Hortonworks products are fully open source, Cloudera have free and Enterprise editions, and the Enterprise Edition has only a trial period; Apache Hadoop is native to Hadoop. The current popular in China is the Apache Hadoop, cloudera CDH, of course hortonworks also useful.
Hortonworks is the name of an elephant named Horton in children's books. As we all know, the name of Hadoop is taken from a plush toy elephant. A similar naming approach illustrates Hortonworks's business around Hadoop. In 2011, Yahoo stripped the Hadoop business, by Eric Bladeschweiler, Yahoo-led vice president of Hadoop development, leading more than 20 core members to form Hortonworks. At the beginning of the establishment, Hortonworks is Yahoo and benchmark $23 million investment, it is born with a golden key. Since then, Hortonworks has been sought after by the capital markets, with a total of five rounds of $248 million in financing before the IPO and landed on Nasdaq at the end of 2014.
Hortonworks has two core products: HDP and HDF, all of which are enterprise-level data management platforms. The core of HDP is that yarn and Hdfs, yarn are resource management systems that enable users to process data in multiple ways, while HDFS provides efficient, distributed, high-fault-tolerant big data storage. HDF is a real-time data stream management platform introduced in 2015 and complements HDP.
Unlike traditional software providers, Hortonworks does not charge for products, but is completely open to these two products, placing the core technology in the Hadoop open source community where everyone can see and use the two products. Open the company is not to do charity, Hortonworks rely on what to make money. As with Redhat, a subscription is used to charge a service fee.
