In this way, the pattern is recognized. Since each template is associated with a certain meaning and other information, the pattern being identified is interpreted or otherwise processed. For example, when we look at a letter A, the retina receives information that is transmitted to the brain, stimulates the information to be encoded in the brain, and compares it to the various templates stored in the memory, and determines that it has the best match with template A, and that the letter A is identified; It is the first letter in the English alphabet, or the best score for the exam, and so on. Thus, pattern recognition is a series of continuous stages of information processing process.

However, the scene of the real world input vision system is complex. For the character "F", the input "F" character may be stretched, compressed, rotated, twisted, broken, and so on, which makes the template matching work difficult and complicated.
