How does the human brain perceive images? --Template matching mode (one of traditional pattern recognition)

The model was originally proposed for machine pattern recognition and was later used to explain human pattern recognition.
Its core idea is that in the long-time memory of human beings, there are many kinds of pocket copies of the external patterns that have been formed in life in the past. These pocket copies, called Templates, have a one-to-one correspondence with the external pattern, and when a stimulus is applied to the human senses, the stimuli are encoded and compared to the various templates that have been stored, and then the decision is made to see which template is best matched to the stimulus, Just make sure that the stimulus is the same as the template. In this way, the pattern is recognized. Since each template is associated with a certain meaning and other information, the pattern being identified is interpreted or otherwise processed. For example, when we look at a letter A, the retina receives information that is transmitted to the brain, stimulates the information to be encoded in the brain, and compares it to the various templates stored in the memory, and determines that it has the best match with template A, and that the letter A is identified; It is the first letter in the English alphabet, or the best score for the exam, and so on. Thus, pattern recognition is a series of continuous stages of information processing process.

However, the scene of the real world input vision system is complex. For the character "F", the input "F" character may be stretched, compressed, rotated, twisted, broken, and so on, which makes the template matching work difficult and complicated.

There are two main difficulties: one is the matching of three-dimensional scenery, but the matching of integrated objects.

A ring can be rotated in three dimensions to form the graph above. It is not difficult to see that when an object rotates, it loses a portion of the information. At this point the template mode is judged as an ellipse for the rotated shape. or a circle.

When putting together a large pile of objects, such as dozens of books, without rules, how to match the overlapping object images.
