A macro is a well-defined operation, a collection of instructions, or a piece of program code. A macro is actually a series of commands and functions stored in a Visual Basic module that can be run at any time when it needs to be performed. Creating autorun operations does not require programming with VBA, as long as you record these repetitive actions as macros and run the macros when you need them. Here's how to record a macro in Word 2013.

1. Start Word 2013 and open the document, enter the text you want to work with in the document, and then, on the View tab, in the Macros group, click the Macro button and select the Record Macro option in the Open list, as shown in Figure 1. The Record Macro dialog box opens, you enter the name of the macro in the Macro Name text box, and you select the document that you saved in the Save macro in the Drop-down list, select the document that is currently open, as shown in Figure 2.

Attention

Here, click the button button to open the Word Options dialog box, you can add the current macro to the Quick Access Toolbar with the display of the button, and you can click the button to start the macro running, and if you click the Keyboard button, you can open the Customize Keyboard dialog box, which you can use to specify shortcut keys for the run of macros.

2. Click OK to close the Record Macro dialog box and start recording the macro, when the mouse pointer changes to a shape, indicating that you are now in the macro recording state. The selected text is manipulated here, such as centering the text and setting the font and size of the text, and when you are done, click the Stop button on the word status bar to stop the recording of the macro, as shown in Figure 3.

Attention

When you record a macro, you click the macro button in the Macros Group on the View tab, and the Pause recording option in the list pauses the macro recording. In addition, to avoid errors when recording macros, you can manipulate the entire process before you record a macro.

3. Click the File tab and select the Save As option in the list on the left side of the window to open the Save As dialog box, and in the Save as type Drop-down list, select the document type is macro-enabled Word document (*.DOCM), as shown in Figure 4. When you finish setting up, click the Save button to finish saving the document.

Attention

Macros-enabled documents cannot be saved as normal Office documents, and when you save a document, Office prompts you to save it as a macro-enabled document form.
