What are the appropriate benchmark numbers for IP router management? For example, to monitor and maintain 1000 routers and 1000 lines, how many employees need to be configured for each shift?
To develop a standard for resources, we generally try to estimate the number of network devices that can be managed by each resource as follows:
· Highly complex network devices: 15 to 20 employees.
· Moderately complex network devices: 60 to 75 employees each.
· Low-complexity network devices: 250 to 300 employees.
Device Type
· Highly complex network devices include enterprise switches and ip pbx switches.
· Moderately complex network devices include LAN wired and wireless routers.
· Networks with low complexity include hubs and similar low-end devices.
For large organizations (with annual sales revenue of more than $1 billion), the economies of scale can reduce the need for staffing by 10% to 20%. For small enterprises (whose annual sales revenue is less than $30 million), it is planned to increase by 10% to 20%.
Enterprises with advanced IT capabilities and maturity, as well as people, processes, and technical applications that exceed the average level can reduce it costs and improve it efficiency. It is also normal to reduce the number of configuration personnel by 10% to 20%. The key to reducing the goal of configuration personnel is to simplify the network through standardization and the whole process. On the contrary, if personnel capabilities are lower than average and maturity, the Organization needs to allocate 10% to 20% more people.
