(DAO article)
For the complexity of ODBC later Microsoft proposed a solution: DAO (Data Access Objects).
DAO is the first object-oriented interface, and the DAO model is a collection of object classes that design the structure of the relational database system. They provide properties and methods to complete all the operations required to manage a relational database system, including creating databases, defining tables, fields and indexes, establishing relationships between tables, locating and querying databases, and so on.
It actually includes the Microsoft Jet database engine, which is an engine used by Microsoft Access, and allows application developers to link directly to access tables, as well as direct links to other databases via ODBC, and, of course, access SQL Server database. DAO is best suited for single system applications or small-scope local distribution usage. The structure of the DAO is shown in the figure
