About the use of 3-machine 4 network card connection under Windows 98 (Second Edition) operating system in many books have been introduced, here we take Windows Server as an example, the use of Windows 2000 to do routing, 3 machine 4 network connection.

1 The role of routing and the required hardware devices

The main role of routing is to connect different network segments, or to transform different protocols running on different network operating systems to achieve heterogeneous interoperability.

Routers in the LAN's identity is special, it and other network devices somewhat different, and the most notable feature is that the router must have more than two IP addresses.

In the LAN, because the computer within the network can only see with its own in the same subnet, so, to make the host within the subnet can see the existence of the router, you must attach a notebook network IP address. Similarly, for another LAN, it is necessary to attach a subnet IP address to the router to ensure that the computer on the network sees the router.

The router connection diagram is shown in Figure 11-13.

For a 3-machine 4 network connection, because the computer running Windows 2000 acts as a router and is responsible for forwarding information between two different subnets, you need to meet the basic requirements of Windows 2000, in addition to the two network cards required to connect the two local area networks, and two twisted pairs of wires connected to the network.

Comments:

The twisted pair that connects directly to the two-block network card must be a twisted pair of wires.

2 Installing network adapters

The key to installing the network card is to set up the network adapter, we first install the first network card on the computer running Windows 2000.

The steps for setting up the network card are as follows:

(1) Right click on "My Computer", choose "Properties" from the pop-up menu, and open the System Properties dialog box.

(2) Select the Hardware tab, click the Hardware Wizard button, and start the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard dialog box.

(3) Click the "Next" button and select the "Add/Exclude Device Failure" radio button in the pop-up dialog box, as shown in Figure 11-14.

(4) Click the Next button and select the "Add New Device" option in the "Hardware" List of the pop-up dialog box, as shown in Figure 11-15.

(5) Continuously click the "Next" button, search for new hardware, and then select the detected hardware, that is, the network card, as shown in Figure 11-16.

(6) Click the Next button, install the driver, and then click the Finish button.

After you install the network card, a local Area Connection icon appears in the Network and Dial-up networking window, as shown in Figure 11-17.

Close the calculation after installing the first NIC, and then install the second NIC on your computer. The second network card installation method is the same as the first network card installation method. If the NIC is Plug and Play, Windows 2000 automatically installs it. When the second NIC is installed, a local connection 2 appears in the Network and Dial-up Connections dialog box, as shown in Figure 11-18.

3 Install network protocol and specify IP address

Windows 2000 offers a variety of network protocols, including NetBEUI, TCP/IP, and ipx/spx. Since the connection and communication between the two network cards are mainly implemented through the built-in routing functions of the operating system, TCP/IP and ipx/spx protocols are often used instead of the NetBEUI protocol because the Protocol does not have routing capabilities.

The steps for installing a network communication protocol are as follows:

(1) Right-click the Local Area Connection icon (1th network card) in the Network and Dial-up Connections window. Select the Properties option from the pop-up menu, open the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, and select the General tab, as shown in Figure 11-19.

Comments:

If a TCP/IP protocol or other protocol is installed for a network adapter in the system, then another network adapter automatically owns the protocol.

(2) Click the Install button, select the Protocol option in the Select Network Component Type dialog box, and then click the Add button to select a network protocol in the Select Network Protocol dialog box, as shown in Figure 11-20.

(3) Click the "OK" button to add a protocol, as shown in Figure 11-21.

(4) Use the same method to add additional network protocols as required.

After you install the network protocol, you need to specify an IP address for two network adapters. Because the two network cards do not belong to the same network segment, their IP addresses are also different.

The following steps are required to specify the network card IP address:

(1) Right-click the Local Area Connection icon (1th network card) in the Network and Dial-up Connections window, and choose Properties from the pop-up menu to open the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box.

(2) Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option from the component list and click the Properties button to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box.

(3) Select the "Use the following IP address" radio button to specify the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway respectively, as shown in Figure 11-22.

(4) When you are finished, click "OK" button.

(5) Repeat the above steps and use the same method to set the IP address of the local Connection 2 (network card 2nd), as shown in Figure 11-23.

4 Setting up Routing and Remote Access

In Windows 2000, you can set up Routing and Remote Access through the Routing and Remote Access Server Security Wizard.

The steps for setting up Routing and Remote Access are as follows:

(1) Select "Start" → "Program" → "Administrative Tools" → "Routing and Remote Access" to open the "Routing and Remote Access" console.

(2) in the Routing and Remote Access console, right-click the domain server and select the Configure and enable Routing and Remote Access option from the pop-up menu, as shown in Figure 11-24.

(3) Start the Routing and Remote Access Server Security Wizard, click Next, and in the dialog box that pops up, select the "Network Router" radio button, as shown in Figure 11-25.

(4) Click the Next button and select the TCP/IP option in the Protocols list, as shown in Figure 11-26.

(5) Click the Next button and follow the prompts to complete the following settings, and when you click the Finish button, Routing and Remote Access is initiated, and IP routing information is displayed in the Routing and Remote Access console, as shown in Figure 11-27.

5 Specify the IP address of the client

After the server setup for Windows 2000 is complete, we will be able to connect them by setting up the TCP/IP parameters for the computer B of Computer A and block 2nd of the network card that connects the server to the 1th block. Where the Gateway must refer to the Windows 2000 Server. This way, when you send data from Computer A to B, the packet can be transferred to a Windows 2000 Server and then forwarded to Computer B by the server's IP. (Computer science)

6 Test Network connection

When all the setup work is complete, the following test will allow the router to function properly. To ensure that all settings are fully validated by the system, you can use the ping command to test the network after restarting the computer, and if all the data can be tested, the expression will be properly communicated. The IP addresses that will be tested here are:

Ping 192.168.0.1

Ping 192.168.0.2

Ping 168.192.0.1

Ping 168.192.0.2
