Why the startup slows when Word installs MathType:

After you install MathType, a file is written to the Startup folder in Microsoft Word. This added file includes adding macro commands and toolbar buttons (or MathType toolbars) in Word to better integrate MathType into MathType. These macros are loaded into the command when you start Word.

Word starts longer because MathType add-ons enable Word to load Microsoft's Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), a technology that must be relied upon to load a project. Although this is a normal behavior, you can simply disable the MathType command if most of your work in Word does not contain a mathematical expression.

You can disable it as you enable the MathType add-in without having to remove or reload it. The specific actions are as follows:

　　In Word 2003:

1. Select "Tools"--"templates and add-ins."

Select templates and add-ins in the Word Tools option

2. In the list of available templates, uncheck MathType Commands 6 for Word.dot. Click "OK".

To disable the appropriate template in the Template Add-ins dialog box

3. The MathType add-on is now temporarily disabled.

4. To re-enable, only need to do the same operation, in the MathType Commands 6 for Word.dot to check on it.

　　In Word2007:

1. Select Word features from the Office Button.

2. Click "Load" in the left panel of the window that appears.

3. At the bottom of the window, select Word Load from the Manage Drop-down menu and click "Go".

4. In the available templates listed, MathType Commands 6 for Word.dotm is canceled.

5. To re-enable, just follow the steps above to check the appropriate files again.

　　Versions of Word 2010 and later:

1. From the File menu, select Features.

2. Click "Load" in the left panel of the window that appears.

3. At the bottom of the window, select Word Load from the Manage Drop-down menu and click "Go".

4. In the available templates listed, MathType Commands 6 for Word 201#.dotm is canceled.

5. To re-enable, just follow the steps above to check the appropriate files again.

　　In Word 2011:

1. Choose templates and add-ins from the Tools menu.

2. In the global template and load list, uncheck the MathType Commands.dot and Wordcmds.dot, and click OK.

3. To re-enable the add-in, follow the steps above to check the appropriate files again.
