Daily Office, in the same network segment to achieve printer sharing is very common, but if you can share the printer across the network, you can give full play to the role of the printer.
Assume that the internal LAN has two subnets "192.200.240.*" and "21.55.8.*". Computers in the 21.55.8.* subnet want to use printers from the "192.200.240.*" subnet, but because the IP address is on different network segments, computers within two network segments cannot share the printer.
So how do I share a printer across a network? Suppose the computer IP address of the shared printer is "192.200.240.10", the name is LSSWHP, and the shared printer name is HP. The IP address of the computer on the "21.55.8.*" subnet to which you want to use the printer is "21.55.8.10", and the following two steps are performed on this computer (Windows2000).
The first step: under the Windows2000 operating system, open the Command Prompt window and go to the "c:winntsystem32driversetc" directory. Enter "Edithosts", edit the Hosts file, start a new line at the end of the file, add "192.200.240.10LSSWHP", Save and exit.
The second step: click "start → set → printer" in turn, and in the Printers window, double-click Add Printer. Go to the Add Printer Wizard window and click the Next button. In the local or network printer selection interface, select Network Printer, and then click the Next button. In the Find Printer window, click the Next button directly. Go to the Browse Printer window, type "lsswhphp" in the Printer field, and then click the Next button, and the wizard will automatically install the printer driver. Then, in the default printer interface, select Yes. In the Completing the Add Printer Wizard interface, you can share a printer across a network segment by clicking the "Finish" button.
Windows XP users can edit the Hosts file in the appropriate directory and share the printer across the network segment via add Printer.
