The smallest system is small and convenient, only dozens of trillion, used to do openstack experiments and make OpenStack cloud image of the good choice. Here's how to install a minimal system in a virtual machine to prepare for a devstack experiment.
I chose VirtrualBox5.0, which can be downloaded from the following address: Https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
The image I chose is 64-bit PC (AMD64, x86_64) (Recommended) under the third Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr", only 37M.
Create a new virtual machine in Virtrualbox, choose 64-bit Ubuntu, if you do not have this option in the virtual machine, it is likely because the virtual hardware is not open, the specific solution please refer to: http://blog.csdn.net/ xingjiarong/article/details/47007023
Here I assign to the virtual machine 2G memory, if the allocated memory is too small, may appear to create a cloud instance of the reported out of memory errors.
Here I allocated nearly 30G of hard disk, here according to their actual situation, the bigger the better, I allocate 30G or so the hard disk can only create small type of cloud instance, too small, maybe but openstack can not be used.
After the creation, open the virtual machine, select the previously downloaded image, to start the following screen:
Select Install for installation.
User name:
You may be asked to set the user name during the installation, and the default is Ubuntu
Disk Partitioning:
There are several different partitioning methods, the default partitioning method is LVM partitions, in this way will create three partitions (/boot,/, swap), this kind of partitioning is good, if you do not set the partitioning method, it is recommended to choose the default partitioning method.
Automatic Updates:
Install security updates is recommended if the virtual machine instance needs to be connected to the Internet automatically
Software: OpenSSH Server
In order to later use SSH to connect to the cloud instance of OpenStack, select OpenSSH Server
Installing GRUB
Select Yes
The other options are selected by default!
Installation is complete. Eject the installation disk and restart it, or you can delete the disc directly after shutting down the machine. Otherwise it will enter the installer again.
Well, our minimal system is ready for installation.
