Office 2003 saves all new custom template files that you create in any Office 2003 program to a location.
There are four types of templates in Office 2003. When you click "Templates on My Computer" in the new task pane, the running Office 2003 program looks for templates that belong to the program in the following locations:
• User Template file location
• Workgroup template File location
• Advertised and installed template file locations
• Non-file-based template file location
User Template file Location
Newly created or modified templates are saved in a folder in the configuration file directory. The folders located under the configuration file contain your configuration preferences and options. All content that must roam with you is stored in these directories as part of the configuration file.
By default, user template files are stored in the following location:
C:documents and Settingsuser nameapplication datamicrosofttemplates
Note: You can change the location of the user template file.
How to change the template location
You can use Microsoft Office Word 2003来 to change the location where new templates are stored. To do this, follow these steps.
Note: If you use Word 2003来 to change the storage location of the new template, you will also change the storage location of all Office 2003 program templates.
1. Start Word 2003.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3. On the File Location tab, click User Templates, and then click Modify.
4. In the Modify Location dialog box, change the settings in the folder name or look in list to the folder where you want to save the new template, and then click OK.
5. Click OK or close to close the Options dialog box.
The changed path will be recorded in the Windows registry and will be used the next time you want to save the new template.
Note: Network administrators can change the storage location of new templates by using the policy templates that are included with the Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit. For more information, contact your network administrator.
You can also create a custom tab that appears in the Templates dialog box by creating a new folder in the Templates folder of the configuration file. Tabs with the same name as the new folder appear in the Templates dialog box. These tabs let you do more of the new template classification.
To view the Templates dialog box, use one of the following methods, depending on the Office 2003 program you are using:
• In Microsoft Office Access 2003, click New on the File menu, and then click Templates on My Computer in the New File task pane.
• In Microsoft Office Excel 2003, click New on the File menu, and then click Templates on My Computer in the New Workbook task pane.
• In Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003, click New on the File menu, and then click More page templates or more site templates.
• In Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003, click New on the File menu, and then click Templates on My Computer in the New Presentation task pane.
• In Microsoft Office Publisher 2003, click New on the File menu, and then click Templates in the New Publication task pane.
