Picasa now allows you to assign photos to a specific location using Google Earth. The position tag feature allows you to embed location information inside a photo file and display photos on a satellite map provided by Google Earth. To mark the position of a photo, follow these steps:
1. Select photos in Picasa
2. From the Tools > location Tag menu, select "Use Google Earth for location tag" to launch Google Earth. In the lower-right corner of the earth, a small Picasa window displays a thumbnail of the picture you selected.
3. Use the arrows to toggle between multiple pictures. If you have entered the "place of capture" information in the Picasa folder description, the earth will automatically go to the specified location. Otherwise, you can browse to the location using the yellow cross line displayed on the earth.
4. Locate the location you want, and then press the position Mark button.
5. After you mark all the pictures, press the "Finish" button to add the information to the "My Picasa picture" set in the Earth. You can also mark all selected pictures with the same location information by using the "place to mark All Pictures" button.
Picasa will write longitude and latitude into the EXIF GPS metadata of the photo. For example, if you look at Image properties in Picasa, you will see something like this: GPS latitude 1 ' 13.04 ' N. Picasa will display a small crossover line icon on the thumbnail of the photo being labeled.
To remove a location tag, choose clear location tag information from the Tools > location Indicators menu. Note that this action removes the longitude and latitude information from the EXIF GPS metadata for the photo. It will also remove the photos from Google earth.
