How to query and delete duplicate items in itunes

Step one: Select Show > Show duplicates to display duplicate items (match by song name and performer). If the same song has multiple versions (such as Live and studio editions, or versions from different albums), you can hold down the ALT or Option key (applicable to Mac OS X) or Shift (for Windows), and then choose Show > Show full duplicates. This will only show repeated songs with the same name, performer, and album.

Step Two: Duplicate items are sorted sequentially. Review each item to determine which items you want to delete from the repository. You can compare track lengths, add dates, styles, playback times, sizes, bit rates, and so on to help you determine which items to keep and which items to delete.

Step three: To delete an item, click the item to select it. Then, choose Edit > Delete to delete the duplicate items.

Step Fourth: When you finish removing duplicate items from the repository, click Show All items at the bottom of the ITunes window.
