How to save XP system memory Resources

Many software updates quickly, and the resulting system memory resources are increasing, what can be done to make memory resources better use it? You'll know when you see the following.

  First, optimize memory data

In Windows, the more data resides in memory, the more memory resources are consumed. Therefore, do not set too many shortcut icons on the desktop and in the taskbar. If memory resources are more stressful, consider using as little as possible a variety of background-resident programs. Do not open too many files or windows when you are working on a computer. When you use your computer for a long time, if you do not restart your computer, the array of data in memory may be confusing, causing system performance to degrade. Then you need to consider restarting your computer.

  Second, enabling disk write caching

Right-click on My Computer to select Properties-> hardware, open Device Manager to locate the hard drive that is currently in use, and right-click [/url] to select Properties. On the policy page of the hard disk properties, turn on enable write caching on disk (Figure 1).

This option will activate the hard drive's write cache to increase the drive's read and write speed. Note, however, that when this feature is turned on, a sudden power outage on the computer can result in irreparable data loss. Therefore, it is best to turn this feature on with UPS. Of course, if you usually use the computer do not do any important data processing work, no UPS does not matter, this function will not cause too much damage to the system.

Third, to close the unwanted services

If you don't have a printer in your home, you can turn off the "Printerspooler" service. If you do not perform regular tasks, turn off the "TaskScheduler" service. For most people, "remoteregistry" is also useless and can be shut down. Below is a list of all the optimized services listed above, and I've labeled the optimized place with a red circle.

  Four, open Ultramda

In Device management, select the basic/Secondary IDE controller in the IDEATA/ATAPI controller, right-click Select Properties, and open the Advanced Settings page. The most important setup item here is "transfer Mode", which should generally be selected as "DMA (if available)".

  V. Monitoring of memory

The system's memory, no matter how big, will always run out. Although there is virtual memory, but because the hard drive can not read and write speed compared with the speed of memory, so when using memory, you need to monitor the use of memory at all times. A System Monitor is available in the Windows operating system to monitor memory usage. In general, if only 60% of the memory resources available, then you should pay attention to adjust the memory, otherwise it will seriously affect the computer's operating speed and system performance.

  Vi. Configuring recovery options

When a fatal error is encountered during Windows XP run, a snapshot of memory is saved as a file for system debugging purposes, and this file is useless for most ordinary users, but it can affect the performance of virtual memory. So it should be closed.

Right-click on My Computer, select Properties-> Advanced, click the Settings button under Performance, and select the Advanced page in Performance options. There is a "memory usage" option, and if you set it to System caching (Figure 2), Windows XP uses about 4MB of physical memory as a cache for read and write hard disks, which can greatly increase the speed of data exchange between physical and virtual memory. By default, this option is turned off, and if your computer has more physical memory, such as 256M or more, you might want to turn this option on. However, if physical memory is more stressful, the default option should be retained.

Vii. setting up the paging file

Now go back to the Virtual Memory Settings dialog box to select a custom size and set the initial size and maximum values according to the results of the above calculations. Generally, the initial size is 1.5 times times the actual physical memory, and the maximum is 3 times times the actual physical memory. Such as: 512 changes in physical memory should be: Initial size: 768 Maximum: 1536

Eight, change the location of the paging file

The purpose is primarily to maintain the continuity of virtual memory. Because the hard drive reads data is by the magnetic head in the magnetism material reads, the page file puts on the disk the different area, the head will jump to jump, the nature is not conducive to improve the efficiency. and the system disk files are numerous, virtual memory is certainly not continuous, so to put it on the other disk. The way to change the location of the page file is: Right click on "My Computer", select "Properties → advanced → performance set → advanced → change virtual memory", in the drive bar to select the location you want to change to. It is worth noting that when the page file is moved, delete the original file (the system will not automatically delete).

Change the size of the paging file

After changing the location of the paging file, we can also make some adjustments to its size. When adjusting, we need to be careful not to set the maximum and minimum paging file as equivalent. Because the memory is not really "stuffed", it automatically places some of the temporarily unused data on the hard disk as memory reserves reach a certain level. The larger the minimum paging file, the lower the percentage, and the slower the execution rate. The maximum paging file is the limit value, sometimes open a lot of programs, memory and the smallest paging file has been "stuffed", will automatically overflow to the maximum paging file. So it is unreasonable to set the two as equivalent. In general, the minimum paging file is smaller, which makes it more efficient to store as much data as possible in memory. The largest page file set larger, so as not to appear "full" situation.

  Ten, defragment the paging file

File data is stored on the hard disk for a long time, and file fragments (fragment) will naturally occur. To maintain or improve the working efficiency of the hard drive, we should defragment the hard disk from time to time. The so-called virtual memory, in fact, is also the data file on the hard disk, then the virtual memory should also be like a common document needs to be sorted out?

The way the Windows system handles paging files (that is, virtual memory) differs from the general file. In contrast, paging files are less fragmented than regular files, and it is often not necessary to defragment the paging file. In fact, the paging file is not involved when Windows XP is defragmenting the disk.

Although Windows does not defragment the paging file, the fact is that the paging file is fragmented. The pursuit of "perfect" friends may still want to defragment the paging file. You may wish to try the following methods:

Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Properties" in the menu of features that appear later. Enter the settings window for the System properties, select "Advanced"--> "Performance"--> "Settings"--> "Advanced"--> "change" with the mouse, and select "No paging File" in the "Virtual Memory" settings window that appears later. Finally click the "Settings" button to exit and restart the computer.

  Xi. Disabling paging files

When you have more than 512MB of memory, the paging file is no longer noticeable, so we can disable it. In turn, go to Registry Editor "Hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetcontrolsessionma-nagermemorymanagement", and in the Disablepa-gingexecutive (Disable paging file) option to set its value to "1".

  12, empty the page file

There is a "clearpagefileatshutdown (clear paging file on shutdown)" At the same location, setting this value to "1". The "purge" paging file here is not meant to completely remove the Pagefile.sys file from the hard disk, but to "clean" and organize it, so that you can better prepare for the next time you start Windows XP with virtual memory.
