I found the answer to the weakness of human nature

I lived in 1943 in a military hospital in New Mexico State, Albuquerque. I had 3 broken ribs and a perforated lung. This happened during a major marine amphibious landing exercise in Hawaii I.. I was about to jump from the skiff to the beach, and by chance a big wave came in and lifted the skiff, and I lost my balance and fell on the beach. Because of the strong fall, I broke my ribs and one of them pierced my right lung.

After 3 months in the hospital, I had the worst fright of my life, and the doctor said that my injury would never get better. After careful thought, I thought it was too much trouble to recover. My former life is lively and colorful, but this 3 months I have to lie in bed 24 hours a day, nothing to do, only cranky. The more you think about it, the more you fret: worry about whether you can regain your former status, whether you will be permanently disabled, and whether you can get married and live a normal life.

So I asked the doctor to put me in the next ward, a ward known as the "Country Club" because the patients there were almost entirely free to move.

In this "Country Club" Ward, I was interested in "Contract bridge". I spent 6 weeks learning the game, partnering with other partners, and reading some bridge books. After 6 weeks, I played bridge almost every night. I also have an interest in oil painting: Every afternoon 3~5 point, I think the teacher under the guidance of learning to draw. Some of my works are excellent and you can even see what I'm drawing at a glance. I also tried carving soap box wood, sick and read a lot of related books, find it very interesting. I made myself very busy, so I didn't have time to worry about my injury. I even spent a lot of time reading the psychology books that the Red Cross gave me. At the end of the third month, all the paramedics came to congratulate me and say that I had a good recovery. The sweetest words I've ever heard since I was born. I was so happy that I wanted to shout aloud.

My point here is that I will not make any progress when I have nothing to do but lie in my bed all day and worry about my future. I just use trouble to kill my body, even broken ribs are difficult to get better. But I concentrate on playing bridge, painting, carving, forget the pain of the body, the doctor said "great progress."

I'm living a normal and healthy life, and my lungs are as good as yours.

Do you remember what Bernard Shaw said? "The source of sorrow is that you have leisure to think about whether you are happy or not." "Be active and keep yourself busy."
