[Icehouse] [Nova]migration Study

Our test set up ALLinONE, Ncompute environment, in order to let the environment run normal encounter a heap of pits, of course, most of the time is personnel ... There's not much personal emotion here.

A simple record of the personal understanding of the migration is why use it ~

Role: Migrate instance to another host (compute). So there must be at least 2 or more compute nodes in the environment. OpenStack has two types of migration type "Live migration" and "Block migration". "Live migration" requires an instance to be saved in the NFS share storage, which is primarily a migration of the memory state of the instance and should be fast. "Block Migration" in addition to migrating the instance memory state, it is slower to migrate the disk files, but it does not require the instance to be stored in the shared file system.

Migration in 1.allinone:

Because there are no other nodes in the ALLinONE environment, there are two ways to make allinone migration

The first, native migration

Modify the Nova profile to enable the native migration feature, and then remember to compute restart the service after you have modified it

/etc/nova/nova.conf

Allow_migrate_to_same_host=true

Second, append compute node

Sounds strange, but because live migration need to be able to choose another host, in order to cover all the test case, so the attempt to append a compute node, incredibly successful!

Migration in 2.ncompute:

Prerequisite 1: There are 2 or more compute nodes

Prerequisite 2: Configure NFS Share Storage

Prerequisite 3: the instance to be migrated is created using volume
