Implicit semantic search (LSI) and search engine optimization-search engine technology

Recently, when people use paypal to search on Google, the first one is no longer the official website of Paypal, an internationally renowned online payment company, Paypal.com. This phenomenon clearly reflects that Google is increasing its penalties for returning "abnormal" link text (anchor text. Although the rankings of Paypal in Google, as a typical example, have been corrected, there are still thousands of small websites that are not well-known and suffering from the same problems: that is to say, the company name is used to search in Google, and the ranking of websites becomes a problem, not to mention the keyword that has always been a good place. For search engine optimizers, the most important thing is to understand two points: first, how does Google impose an anchor penalty, and second, when we adopt different forms of anchor text, how does the implicit semantic search (LSI) ensure that such changes in the anchor text do not affect the effect of the link promotion activities.

I. Penalty for anchor text
Many people have noticed this phenomenon last year: for a website that has established a large number of back-to-link connections in a short time, it can only get the desired ranking effect in some large search engines like Yahoo, but this link promotion behavior cannot work for Google. The reason is that Google has added some filtering features in the search algorithm to remove websites that feel "abnormal" back to the link structure from their search results. "Penalty for abnormal anchor texts" is one of the features.

Descriptive words are used as the text content, whether for a website's internal link or external link's link text, that is, what we usually call the anchor text, is undoubtedly the most popular practice by search engine optimizers. However, when selecting the content of the anchor text, many optimizers always focus on only one major keyword, especially if this keyword can attract more visits than the website's second keyword, this approach is particularly prominent. In addition, it is not easy for the website to obtain high-quality back-to-link, which is why the optimization personnel optimize the website, there will be no major reason for missing the opportunity to add this key word to its anchor text.

As long as the keywords in the anchor text are highly related to the website content, this approach should be understandable. Unfortunately, the "same" link content is problematic for search engines. Because in the search engine's opinion, the most natural link text should be diverse, for example, the company name, keyword, keyword synonym, website address, or even "Click here to enter", such as the anchor text content is the most normal. However, if the text content of all external links is "website main keywords", it is clear that these links are definitely not obtained through normal channels in the search engine's search algorithm mechanism.

II. What is implicit semantic search (LSI)
LSI is an information retrieval technology. Through statistical means, LSI can extract documents that do not contain query strings but are related. After conversion, related words are related to the content contained in the document, which is similar to "Conceptual Search. Using LSI technology means that search engines try to associate certain query terms with their potential concepts when searching webpages. For example, associate iMac with Apple's computer.
