Improper hard drive jumper settings, resulting in slow startup speed

1.BIOS self-test After the completion of the IDE, the speed is very slow, almost 20 seconds (hook up two hard drives, BIOS configuration of the IDE automatic monitoring).

2.IDE after monitoring, clear screen, the next step is the Windows splash screen, here again for almost 20 seconds.

In this way, it takes nearly 3 minutes for the system to boot up. I wonder, the configuration is not low Ah, P4 2.4GHz CPU, 512MB DDR memory ... Because there are one weeks did not use the computer, has been not very understanding of the computer's mother in use, even if she messed up the system, so ghost restored a new system, the fault remains.

Plug the second hard drive removed, the system started very fast, less than a minute time. It is normal to hang up a new hard disk alone and make a system with ghost. It seems to be because of the multiple hard drive.

What's the difference between hooking up multiple hard drives and a single hard drive? The system will not boot if there is a problem with the IDE line. The problem with the hard drive? After the system started all normal Ah, multiple hard disk access is not a problem, speed is also very fast, so the elimination of hard disk problems.

That leaves only the hard drive jumper-a system that used to be a single hard drive, the hard drive jumper has not been moved, is located in the CS (Cable Select) state, has not had the problem which the startup is slow--then replaced the first hard disk jumper from CS to Ma (Master) mode, the second hard disk jumper from the MA ( Master) replaced by SL (Slave) mode, the boot speed is normal!

It seems to be the motherboard to detect multiple hard drive line selection problem. Generally new hard drive jumpers are set to the main, if the user does not change the jumper and directly connect it to the computer in use, then because the current computer in the main hard drive, then the new hard drive may not appear in the BIOS. If the hard disk jumper is set to cable Select, its master-slave relationship is based on where it is located on the IDE's data cable. If you prefer to use cable select mode, make sure that the two hard drives connected to the IDE's data cable are set to cable select. It should be noted that some hard disks may not support this jumper mode, and the problem with the data cable may cause the hard drive to work abnormally. So in general, we should all manually set the hard drive primarily or from the mode. Additional incorrect hard drive jumper settings may also result in the loss of the letter.
