Install Ubuntu 8.04 Server:

1. Before entering the Ubuntu installation interface, the system will prompt you to use the language. To ensure that the system can be used properly after installation, we recommend that you use English;

 

 

 

2. Select "Install Ubuntu server" and press the Enter key to start the installation.Program. Tip: the Ubuntu Server Installation interface is in the character format! Unlike windows or Ubuntu Desktop, a prompt box is displayed, and you can click the mouse. You can only use the keyboard throughout the installation process. You can use the arrow keys (top, bottom, left, and right), Tab keys, space keys, and enter keys to perform operations. The functions are as follows:

• Direction keys (Up, down, left, and right): focus can be moved;
• Tab key: you can switch to the focus button;
• Space key: You can select or cancel the check box. Before the selected check box, an asterisk (*) is displayed.
• Enter key: OK;

 

 

 

3. Select a language. The default value is English. It is best to select English for installation, because after selecting Chinese (simplified) to install the system, garbled characters may occur. Press enter to continue;

 

 

 

4. Select a country or region. You can only select the nearest "Hong Kong" region and press enter to continue. Tip: you can move the focus by clicking the "up" arrow key;

 

 

 

5. Check the keyboard layout, press the tab key to switch to "no", and press the Enter key to continue;

 

 

 

6. Select the source keyboard layout. The default value is "USA". Press enter to continue;

 

 

 

7. Select the derived keyboard layout based on the source keyboard layout. This step also keeps the default "USA. Press enter to continue;

 

 

 

8. Configure the NIC, "ETH 0" Is the first Nic on the virtualbox virtual machine. The connection method is "Nat ". That is to say, this network card can be used to connect to the Internet. It is best to use this network card as the main network interface. In the future, you can easily run the apt-GET command to install the required software package. Do not make any changes. Press enter to continue. Tip: For "ETH 1" Is the second network card on the virtualbox virtual machine. The connection method is "Host-only adapter ". That is to say, this network card can be used to access the local network. This Nic can be connected to the virtual machine through SSH only after it is enabled. In the next article, I will introduce it in detail;

 

 

 

9. Set the Host Name and keep the default "localhost. Press enter to continue;

 

 

 

10. Select "use entire disk (use the entire disk)" for the disk partition, and press enter to continue. Tip: if another system is installed on the disk, "resize SCSI" will appear. 1" This option. After this option is selected, UBUNTU will be installed into the remaining disk space. If the entire disk is used, UBUNTU will be fully formatted, so that the old system will be lost;

 

 

 

11. The installer confirms with the user again and press enter to continue;

 

 

 

12. Save the disk partition modification, switch to "yes" through the tab key, and press the Enter key to continue;

 

 

 

13. Next, the basic Ubuntu system will be automatically installed, which requires no manual intervention;

 

 

 

14. Set the user name and password;

 

 

 

 

 

 

15. Configure the package management address. You can skip this step by pressing the Enter key;

 

 

 

16. The system automatically configures apt, which requires no manual intervention. After the configuration is complete, we can use the apt-GET command to install the required software;

 

 

 

17. Install the server software and select "OpenSSH server" and "Samba File Server ". In this step, "lamp server" is not selected, because I will use XAMPP to replace the built-in lamp server of ubuntu. Tip: select the server to be installed by using the arrow key "up/down". Press the Space key to select or cancel the check box. Press the tab key to switch to "continue" and press the Enter key to continue;

 

 

 

18. display the installation progress and automatically create a logon user. Manual intervention is not required;

 

 

 

19. After the installation is complete, the system prompts to remove the disc from the CD-ROM and then restart. Tip: Do not rush to press enter in this step;

 

 

 

20. You can unmount the CD/DVD devices à unmount CD/DVD device from the menu, and then select "continue" to automatically restart the system;

 

 

 

21. After the restart is completed, enter the user name and password to view the command prompt of Ubuntu Linux;
