Method 1:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM to your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Hold down the Shift key while inserting the CD-ROM to prevent the disc from running automatically.
2. Click start, and then click Run.
3. In the open box, type cmd and click OK.
4. type the following command line at a command prompt and press enter at the end of each line, where the CD-ROM drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP DVD-ROM on your computer, the system root directory is the path and folder Name of the Windows System File (usually C: \ Windows ):
CD-ROM driver:
CD i386
Expand sndvol32.ex _ system root directory \ system32 \ sndvol32.exe
For example, if your computer's CD-ROM drive is drive E and the folder containing Windows system files is C: \ windows, enter the following command line at the command prompt (Press enter at the end of each line ):
E:
CD i386
Expand sndvol32.ex _ c: \ windows \ system32 \ sndvol32.exe
5. Type exit to exit the command prompt.
6. Verify that you can enable volume control and display the volume icon in the notification area (if you select this option ).
Method 2:
1. Open the folder option of my computer tools to view and hide the extensions of known file types. Remove this check box and click OK.
2. You put the XP disc into the optical drive. For example, if your drive letter is H
3. Search for the sndvol32.ex _ file under drive H.
4. copy and paste the sndvol32.ex _ file to the c: \ windows \ system32 directory, right-click it, and double-click sndvol32.exe.
