The installation environment and the software used in this article are as follows:

    • Operating System: Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
    • Software Information: Lotus Domino 7.0.2, Lotus Domino management client 7.0.2, Lotus Sametime 7.5.1, and Lotus Sametime connect 7.5.1.

The installation and configuration steps are as follows:

    1. Verify that the software and hardware environment meets the installation requirements
    2. Install the Domino server
    3. Configure the Domino server
    4. Install the domino management client
    5. Install the Sametime Server
    6. Configure the Sametime Server
      • Fill Domino Directory
      • Edit server document
      • Provides the user registration function
    7. Test the Sametime Server

Verify that the software and hardware environment meets the installation requirements

The release notes attached to the software package contain specific requirements on software and hardware, for example, detailed descriptions of the supported operating systems such as chips, memory, hard disk space, and swap space are provided. Table 1 lists the requirements for the Windows operating system.

Install the Domino server

The Sametime Server depends on the Domino server. Therefore, you must install the Domino server before installing the Sametime server. Sametime 7.5.1 requires that the Domino server version be no less than 7.0. The following describes how to install the Domino server:

  3. Specify the Domino Server Installation Directory

    Accept the default directory unless otherwise required. If you selectInstall Domino partitioned servers", The currently installed Domino server will be installed on the component zone server.

    Accept the default directory unless otherwise required.

  5. Select the installation type

    Accept the default"Domino Enterprise Server. This type provides both message and application services.

Configure the Domino server

What is a domino partitioning server?

By using the domino partition server, you can run multiple Domino server instances on one computer. All partitions on the domino partitioning server share the same DominoProgramDirectory and the same executable program. However, each partition has its own data directory and the notes. ini file. Therefore, each partition has its own "Domino Directory" copy and other management databases.

The Domino partitioning server eliminates the need for enterprises to purchase multiple computers to run multiple Domino servers. Instead, they purchase an instance of a more powerful computer to run multiple Domino servers, this reduces hardware costs and minimizes the number of computers managed.

Through"Start> All Programs> Lotus Applications> Lotus Domino Server"Start the Domino server, as shown in figure 8.

Select"Start Domino as a regular applicationAndDon't ask meagain", So that the server will not be started later, and the program will be started as a general application, so that you can view the output information at startup from the console, so that you can understand the startup status.

When you start the Domino server for the first time, the system starts the Domino server configuration program. The configuration process is as follows:

  2. Specifies whether the current server is the first (separate) or the attached Server

    If you selectSet up the first server or a stand-alone server", The system will create a new domino domain and install a new Domino server. If you selectSetup and addtional Server", The system will install a new Domino server in an existing Domino domain. In this example, we select"Setup the first server or a stand-alone server".

  3. Server name and title

    The Host Name of the computer is recommended for server names. If you want to use the Domino server information that you have previously backed up, you can select"I want to use an existing Server ID file", And then click"Browse..."Button to select the location of server. Id. Here, we enter the server name and title.

  4. Set the Organization Name and organization creden Password

    Generally, you only need to set up one organization. However, if your level name scheme needs to contain multiple organizations instead of only one "Domino Directory", create an additional organization and click"Customize..."Button.

  5. Set Domino Domain Name

    Because we chose"Set up the first server or a stand-alone server", So we need to create a new domino domain.

  7. Specify the services provided by the server

    Select"Web browsers (HTTP servies)", Which is required to install the Sametime server.

    Click"Customize..."Button to set a fully qualified host name for the Domino server.

Install the domino management client

What is the "Domino Directory "? The "Domino Directory" is used as a "Public Address Book" or "name address book" in earlier versions ". It is a database automatically created by Domino on each server. The "Domino Directory" is a directory that contains user, server, and group information (and some information added by the user. Registering a user or server in a domino domain automatically adds the "Personnel" and "server" documents to the "Domino Directory" of the domain. These documents contain detailed information about each user and server.

Many configuration operations on the Sametime server must be completed through the domino management client. Therefore, before continuing to install the Sametime server, let's first install the domino management client. The installation procedure is as follows:

    1. Start the Domino server.
    2. Run the installation program of the Lotus Domino management client, accept the license agreement, and select the installation path.
    3. Select to install the domino administrator component.

    4. Configure the Notes client user information.

      In the name column, enter the Administrator name we specified when installing the Domino server ). Enter "stserver/IBM" (Domino server name/organization name) in the Domino server name column ).

    5. Select how to connect to the Domino server.

      There are two methods: "LAN connection" and "telephone connection". Select "LAN connection ".

    6. Enter the network information of the Domino server.

      The Domino server name field is entered in Step 4 (stserver/IBM), the network type is TCP/IP, and the server address is filled with the IP address of the Domino server or the domain name that the DNS can resolve.

    7. When the domino management client receives a response from the Domino server, it will prompt you to enter the administrator password.
    8. On the instant message configuration page, because the Sametime server has not been installed, you do not have to choose.
    9. No selection is made on the additional service configuration page.

Install the Sametime Server

Check whether the following requirements have been met before installation to ensure the installation process runs smoothly.

    • Confirm that all required software and hardware are in place and work properly.
    • If the correct language version is installed, the language version of the Sametime server must be consistent with that of the Domino server.
    • Temporarily disable antivirus and screen saver programs.
    • Ensure that all applications related to the installation of the Sametime server on the computer are closed, including the domino management client and browser. Otherwise, some shared files may conflict.
    • Make sure that the server. ID does not have a password. When installing the Domino server, if the provided server. ID has a password, it must be cleared. Or, if there is a copy of the server. ID with or without a local password, it can be used to replace the server. ID under the server data directory. To clear the server. ID password, log on to the Lotus Notes client with server. ID, and then click"File> Security> User security"Reset the password to null.
    • Confirm that the Domino server has enabled the HTTP service.
    • Confirm that the client computer can access the Domino server with a fully qualified name. You can also register the machine where the Domino server is located to the DNS server, or add a ing in the hosts file of the client computer. Then, you can run the ping command in the command line window to verify whether you can ping the Domino server with a fully qualified name.
    • Make sure that the Domino server has been started at least once. This ensures that some necessary databases have been successfully created and initialized.
    • Stop all services on the Domino server before installing the sametiem server.

Run the sametime Installer. The installation process is as follows.

    1. Specify the Sametime server that provides the slide Conversion Function

      This function is used to convert files in various formats (including slides, images, documents, etc.) into bitmap formats so that files can be shared as slides during meetings. By default, this function is provided by the installed Sametime server. You can also specify a dedicated Sametime server to distribute the workload.

    2. Select a directory for collaboration

      There are two types available: "Domino Directory" and "LDAP directory. If you select the latter, you need to provide the server name, port number, and so on. Select the default "Domino Directory ".

    3. Select whether to enable the HTTP channel function

      By default, the Sametime server uses ports 8081 and 1533 to provide conference services and community services. If the firewall of your network blocks communication between the two ports, you can enable this function, so that the sametime service listens to port 80. If the two ports are not blocked, do not select this function.

    4. The Sametime server has been installed.

The startup and shutdown of the Sametime Server depend on its Domino server. Start the Domino server. When"Sametime is running"Indicates that the Sametime server has been started. To disable the server, you only need to type "quit" on the console to exit.

Configure the Sametime Server

Fill Domino Directory

You must fill in the Domino Directory only in the following situations.

    1. Specify the Domino Directory as the directory for collaboration
    2. The currently installed server is the first server in the domino domain

Initially, the directory contains no other users except the administrator. Add a new user to the Domino Directory. the user name (last name), user name, and password must be provided. There are three methods to fill the Domino Directory:

    1. IBM Lotus Notes Client
    2. Domino management client
    3. Sametime User Registration

For general sametime users, the third method is the easiest and requires no additional clients to be installed. We will introduce this in detail in the following sections.

Edit server document

Log on to the server using the domino management client, select the "configuration" tab, expand the server node on the left, and click "current server document". The configuration of the current server appears in the window on the right, as shown in:

Select"Edit Server", And then click"Internet protocols", And then select"Domino web engine", Replace the"Session Authentication"Is specified as"Single Server". Save and close the document and restart the Domino server. Enter the http://stserver.domain/stcenter.nsf in your browser to see the web welcome page for the Sametime server.

Provides the user registration function

On the web welcome page, click"Administrator the server", Enter the Administrator's username and password, and enter the Sametime Server Web Management page after the verification is passed. Expand"Domino Directory"Node, click"Domino", The right page is as follows:

Select"Allow users to register to the Domino DirectoryAnd then click"Update"Button to restart the Domino server. Open the welcome page http://stserver.domain/stcenter.nsf to see the link to register with sametime on the left:

However, you cannot complete the registration operation because you have not set the relevant Domino Directory Access Permissions. We need to authorize in the domino management client. Open the domino management client and click"File"Tag, find"Name. nsf". Right-click the file and select"Access Control> Management", Such:

In the access control list, add"Sametime development/Lotus Notes companion Products". Then, you can register a new account on the web page, log on to the Sametime server using client tools such as sametime connect, and use various services provided by Sametime.

Test the Sametime Server

Use the sametime registration function mentioned above to register a new user to test the Sametime server.

    1. Open Lotus Sametime connect and enter the address and port of the Sametime server in the options (the specific option name may be slightly different because of the different versions of Lotus Sametime Connect ). Save configuration information.
    2. Enter the registered user name and password to log on to the Sametime server. Search for and add new users.
    3. Send instant messages to other users in your contact list.
    4. Invite many people to talk and test functions such as audio, video, and program sharing.
    5. Enter the sametime welcome page, and enter the user name and password to log on. Click "schedule meeting" on the right side of the page, fill in the meeting name, time, attendees and other relevant information, and finally save.
    6. Click"Attendance".

If everything above is normal, the installation and configuration of sametime are successful.
