Erwin is used to establish the entity-relationship (E-R) model, which is an excellent case tool for relational database application development. Erwin can easily construct entities and contacts, express various constraint relationships between entities, and create corresponding stored procedures, packages, triggers, roles, etc. according to the template, and can also write the corresponding PB extended attributes, such as editing style, display style, validation rules, etc.

Erwin can realize the transformation of the well built ER model to the physical design of the database, and can automatically generate the library structure on a variety of database servers (such as Oracle,sql server,watcom), and improve the development efficiency of the database.

Erwin can be reverse engineered, automatically generate documents, support synchronization with databases, support team-type development, and support more than 20 databases. The Erwin Database design tool can be used to design application databases such as client/server, Web, intranet, and data warehouses.

Erwin is mainly used to establish the conceptual model and physical model of the database. It can graphically describe the properties of entities, relationships, and entities. Erwin supports IDEF1X methods. By using the Erwin Modeling tool to automatically generate, change, and analyze the IDEF1X model, we can not only get excellent business function and data requirement model, but also realize the transformation from IDEF1X model to data physical design.

The Erwin Model block Diagram (diagram) drawn by the Erwin tool consists of three components: entity, attribute and relation, which corresponds to three main components of the IDEF1X model. You can think of a block diagram as a graphical language for expressing business statements. The subject area (Subject region) of the Erwin Model diagram is corresponding to the IDEF1X view, which focuses on a plan in the entire data model or an association of entities within a scope in the enterprise. A IDEF1X model consists of one or more views, and the primary domain area in Erwin (main Subject Areas) combines various subject areas, covering the entire range of data modeling, or the entire scope of the IDEF1X model.

The Erwin tool draws models that correspond to both logical and physical models. In the logical model, the IDEF1X Toolbox makes it easy to graphically build and draw entity relationships and attributes of entities. In the physical model, Erwin can define corresponding tables and columns, and can be automatically converted to the appropriate type for various database management systems.
