Introduction to fast cache and fast VP

In the previous article, we introduced the xtrem series. EMC also has a fast suite. people who are new to these products and technologies are easy to confuse. next we will briefly introduce the fast kit products.

Fully Automatic Storage Tiering for virtual pools (fast vp)

Fast VP can reduce the cost of total cost of ownership (TCO) and improve performance by intelligently managing the data placement location at the sub-lun level. after fast VP is implemented, the advantages of the storage system in measuring, analyzing, and implementing storage classification policies cannot be achieved by manual analysis.

Fast VP is implemented on a storage pool.

Fast VP collects Io activity statistics in 1 GB, also known as slice ). the relative activity level of each slice is used to determine which slice should be directed to a higher storage level by promote.

Fast VP requires license.

Fast cache allows you to use the flash drive to provide lower response time and better iops, instead of specifying a flash disk as an application.ProgramService. the flash drive does not need to serve a specific application any more. this technology adds available cache for the storage system. it can be used on data anywhere in the storage system, so you no longer need to analyze the needs of a specific application. it can provide better performance for all applications, while using fewer flash drives.
