Optical fiber jumper (also known as optical fiber connector) is a Connector Plug installed on both ends of the optical fiber, used to achieve optical link activity connection; one end is equipped with a plug is called pigtails.

Optical fiber jumper (also known as optical fiber connector), that is, the optical fiber connectors connected to optical modules, also have many types, and they cannot be used with each other. The SFP module (SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggables) can be simply understood as an upgraded version of GBIC. SFP module (the size is half the size of the GBIC module. You can configure more than twice the number of ports on the same panel. The SFP module is basically the same as that of GBIC, so it is also called Mini-GBIC by some switch manufacturers ).

The SFP module places the CDR and dispersion compensation outside the module, which further compresses the size and power consumption.

Google is currently purchasing a large number of SPF + modules to design and produce its own 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches to meet the operational needs of its data center database systems.

LC Optical Fiber Connector, while GBIC is SC optical fiber connector. The following describes several commonly used optical fiber connectors in network engineering:

① FC Type Optical Fiber Jumper: the external reinforcement mode is a metal sleeve, and the fastening mode is a screw buckle. Generally used on the ODF side (most used on the distribution frame)

② SC-type optical Jumper: the connector connecting the GBIC optical module. Its housing is rectangular, And the fastening mode is plug-and-Remove pin type without rotation. (The maximum number of vro switches used)

③ ST Type Optical Fiber Jumper: It is often used in optical fiber distribution frame, with a Circular Shell and a screw fastening method. (For 10Base-F connections, the connector is usually of the ST type. Used in optical fiber distribution frames)

④ LC Optical Fiber Jumper: the connector connected to the SFP module. It adopts a convenient modular Jack (RJ) locking mechanism. (Commonly used routers)

⑤ MT-RJ Type Optical Fiber Jumper: Transceiver integrated square Optical Fiber Connector, a dual-fiber Transceiver integrated

The ST and SC connectors are commonly used in general networks. The ST head is inserted and rotated for half a week. The disadvantage is that it is easy to break. The SC connector is directly inserted and inserted, which is easy to use. The disadvantage is that the FC connector is usually used in telecom networks, there is a nut screwed to the adapter, the advantage is reliable, dust protection, the disadvantage is that the installation time is a little longer. The MTRJ patch cord consists of two high-precision plastic connectors and optical cables. The external parts of the connector are precision plastic parts, including push-pull plugging and clamping mechanisms. Suitable for indoor applications in telecommunication and data network systems.

Optical Fiber Module: Generally, hot swapping is supported. Most of the optical fiber interfaces used by GBIC are SC or ST type. SFP, that is, small encapsulation GBIC, uses LC Type Optical fiber.

Optical fiber used:

Single Mode: L wavelength 1310 single mode long distance LH wavelength 1310,1550

Multimode: SM wavelength 850

SX/LH indicates that single-mode or multi-mode optical fiber can be used.

In the marking of pigtails, we often see "FC/PC", "SC/PC", and so on. Their meanings are as follows:

1 "/" indicates the connector model of Pigtails

The "SC" joint is a standard square joint, which adopts engineering plastics and has the advantages of high temperature resistance and hard oxidation. The SC connector is generally used for the side optical interface of transmission equipment.

The shape of the "LC" joint is similar to that of the SC joint, which is smaller than that of the SC joint.

The "FC" connector is a metal connector, which is generally used on the ODF side. The metal connector can be plugged in more times than plastic.

The connector has many varieties of signals. In addition to the three types described above, there are also MTRJ, ST, and MU.

2. '/' indicates the cross section process of the optical fiber joint, that is, the grinding method.

The "PC" is the most widely used among telecom operators' devices, and its joint section is flat.

The attenuation of "UPC" is smaller than that of "PC", which is generally used for devices with special requirements. Some foreign manufacturers use FC/UPC for internal jumpers of ODF racks, this mainly aims to improve the ODF device's own indicators.

In addition, the "APC" model is widely used in radio and television and CATV in the early stages. The pigtails use an end face with an inclination angle, which can improve the quality of TV signals, the main reason is that the TV signal is analog optical modulation. When the coupling plane of the joint is vertical, the reflected light is returned along the original path.

Because the fiber refractive index distribution is uneven, the coupling surface is returned again. Although the energy is very small, the analog signal cannot completely eliminate the noise, therefore, it is equivalent to adding a weak signal with a delay on the original clear signal, which is a duplicate image. The tilt angle of the pigtail head can make the reflected light not return along the original path. Generally, this problem does not exist in digital signals.
