Hold down the ALT key while dragging guides to toggle between horizontal and vertical guides. Alt-click an existing vertical guide to turn it into a horizontal guide, and vice versa.
Note: Guides are created by dragging them out of the ruler, so make sure that the ruler is open [Ctrl+r] (View > Show rulers).
Holding down the SHIFT key while dragging a guide forces it to align to the scale on the ruler.
Double-click the guides to open the guides & Style Parameter Settings dialog box [Ctrl+k, Ctrl+6] (File > Preferences > Guides & Grid ...).
Double-click the ruler [Ctrl+r] to open the unit & Ruler Parameter Settings dialog box [Ctrl+k, Ctrl+5] (File > Preferences > Units & Rulers ...).
Tip: You can also select ruler units of Measure in the Options menu on the Information Panel.
The ruler's coordinate origin can be set anywhere on the canvas, so you can apply the new coordinate origin as long as you drag from the upper-left corner of the ruler; double-click the upper-left corner to restore the coordinate origin to the default point.
It is also a good idea to use the path tool to create guides for curves and slashes. You can use the pen tool to paint a path as a guide (the path remains visible) as you draw or paint it.
Tip: Toggle the path display using the hidden path command [ctrl+shift+h] (View > Hide path).
Guides are not only adsorbed on the edge (up or down) of the current layer or selection, but are also aligned at the horizontal or vertical centers (the current layer or selection). The converse is the same: the same constituency and layer are adsorbed to the existing auxiliary line (Edge and center).
Note: The guides are not adsorbed onto the background layer. and to achieve the above function first to open the "snap Guide" [ctrl+shift+;] (View > Snap to Guides) option.
