The HMC is a graphical interface of software that runs on a custom Red Hat Linux to be used as an lpar for machines like p670. Hardware Control Manager, used to do lpar, currently used for IBM 630, P650, P670, P690, and so on. The HMC is the host MANAGEMENT console, which is the Manage host console. Is the HMC not hardware manage console? Is the hardware management port, you can configure a PC, through this port to connect the network cable to control the management of minicomputer, including the installation of operating systems and so on. It is more convenient to use, but the general small and medium-sized enterprises do not need to use.
The IBM Hardware Management Console (Hardware Management console) provides a standard user interface for configuring and managing power system family servers and partitions on the server. The system administrator configures and routinely manages partitions on the power system server through the HMC.
The features of the HMC include:
. Create partitions, maintain partitions
. display virtual operating system session terminals on each partition
. Display the virtual operator panel for each partition
-Monitoring, recording and reporting of hardware replacement
. Server on/Off
Provides remote management and service Agent Call-home capabilities as service Focal point devices
. Activate the cuod part on the server
In the current POWER6 server, the power 560/570/575/595 must rely on HMC management.
The compatible list of HMC and server is as follows:
Servers supported by the HMC version
Version 7 and later POWER6 and POWER5

Version 4 and later,5 and later,6 and later POWER5
Version 3 and later POWER4
7042-CR4,7042-C07,7042-CR5 is suitable for power5,power5+ and POWER6 servers;
7310-CR4,7310-C06 is suitable for POWER5 and power5+ servers;
If you need to upgrade microcode to hardware Management Console licensed Machine Code V7 for 7310-CR4,7310-C06, you can apply to POWER6 servers.
Currently, the number of servers supported by the HMC is as follows:
1. The largest 48 non-590 or 595 of the server;
2. Maximum support 32 590 or 595 servers;
3. Support for the largest 254 lpars;
4. In the HMC-managed architecture, the largest support for 2 HMC manages a single server at the same time.
Highlight value point: An HMC can manage dozens of power servers and hundreds of partitions at the same time. Each server can also connect 2 HMC to achieve higher administrative availability.
