Introduction to Word Animation Tutorial 120: Custom Numbering

Source: Internet
Author: User

As an automatic feature of Word, you can easily sort paragraphs by using numbers, and numbering can automatically be rearranged in paragraph order when items are added or deleted.

This section is mainly about how to customize the numbering format, as follows:

1. Select the paragraph to which you want to set the numbering format, and if it is only a paragraph, position the insertion point in the paragraphs.

2. Execute "format" → "Bullets and Numbering" → "numbering" tab, click the Custom button to open the Custom Numbered List dialog box.

Note: If the selected paragraphs have not been numbered, the custom button is grayed out if the style is none in the Number tab. Select a style to use, and the Customize button will change to black, allowing the click to use it.

3. In the dialog box, set the following items as needed:

Numbering Style box: Click the Drop-down arrow on the right to select a numbering style from the list, which appears in the Number format box above.

Start Number box: You can set the numbering start number.

Number Format text box: Displays the exact format of the number setting, and adds additional characters to the number. In this example, the animation is preceded by the numbering "<" and ">".

Font button: Lets you set the font formatting in the number format box.

Number position box: Click the Drop-down arrow on the right to select a number alignment from the list.

Snap To position box: Specifies the amount of indentation for a number.

tab stop position box: Specifies the distance between the number and the text.

Indent position box: Specifies the hanging indent distance from the second line of the paragraph.

4. When the settings are complete, click OK to apply the customized numbering format to the document, and click Cancel to return to the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.

By using the number, pressing ENTER at the end of a paragraph automatically follows the number format of the paragraph on the next line, and if you want to stop the automatic orchestration, press the ENTER key two times in a row or press BACKSPACE to remove the number from the new paragraph.

For numbered paragraphs, if you want to start numbering again from a paragraph, you can position the insertion point in the start paragraph, and then select Restart Numbering on the shortcut menu, or select the duplicate option with the same name on the Number tab, and then click OK, and if you want to change back to the continue number on the shortcut menu command or select the duplicate option with the same name on the Number tab, and then click OK.

In the use process, the author found that if the paragraph has been used in the Paragraph dialog box for the first line of indentation, the custom settings cannot be applied immediately to the selected paragraph (a), b), and you can open the Numbering tab again, select a defined style, and click OK To be resolved, this error should be considered a bug in Word, which does not occur if the paragraph does not have a first-line indent set. Also, if you want to indent numbered paragraphs in characters, it is recommended that you apply the number and then use the Paragraph dialog box to set it (see "Getting Started with Word animation Tutorial 119: Custom Bullets").

Add: Word can also automatically create numbers. Type Arabic numerals, uppercase and lowercase letters, Roman numerals (including parentheses or circled forms) at the beginning of the paragraph, followed by some punctuation or tabs, spaces, and so on, and then enter the text, and the paragraph and its next paragraph automatically apply this type number. Implementation of this function requires the tools → autocorrect options → The AutoFormat As You Type tab, and under Automatically apply when you type, select the AutoNumber list item.
