IPv6 name resolution IPv6 is designed to be used with the 128-bit IPv6 address of the source and target hosts, computer users may encounter difficulties when using and remembering the IPv6 address of the computer they want to communicate. This can be replaced by a unique name that is easy to remember. If the name is used as the alias of an IPv6 address, make sure that the name is unique and can be parsed into a correct IPv6 address. For the IPv6 protocol of Windows Server 2003 series, the host name can be resolved to an IPv6 address. Host names are used by programs that use Windows Sockets. Host name resolution means that the host name is successfully mapped to an IPv6 address. The host name is the alias assigned to an IPv6 node and identifies it as an IPv6 host. The host name can contain a maximum of 255 characters, including letters and numbers, hyphens, and periods. You can allocate multiple host names to the same host. The Windows Socket (Winsock) program can use one of the following values to connect to the target: IPv6 address or host name. No name resolution is required when an IPv6 address is specified. After the host name is specified, the host name must be resolved to an IPv6 address before IPv6 communication with the source. The host name can be in different forms. The two most common forms are nicknames and domain names. A nickname is the alias of an IPv6 address that an individual can allocate and use. A domain name is a structured name in a hierarchical namespace called "Domain Name System (DNS. Www.microsoft.com is an example of a domain name. The nickname or domain name is resolved through the project in the Hosts file. The Hosts file is stored in the systemroot \ System32 \ Drivers \ Etc folder. For IPv6 name-to-address entries, the IPv6 address is written in the standard colon hexadecimal format. Resolve the domain name by sending a DNS name query to the configured DNS server. This server is either a computer that stores the domain name to the IPv6 address ing record, or a computer with records from other DNS servers. The DNS server resolves the domain name to be queried into an IPv6 address and returns the result. DNS clients in the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Families Support processing AAAA (4-A) resource records. All DNS queries and responses are sent using IPv6 and IPv4. It also supports passing DNS names for fully qualified domain names.
