Is your career planning method correct?

You can choose and plan a career path from many strategies, but perhaps two of them are the most basic bottom-up and top-down models.

Bottom-up career planning

Bottom-up career planning means discovering how best you can use your existing career Foundation. This is a low-level objective planning method.
Perhaps the simplest bottom-up plan is to apply for the job when you pass through a shop window with the logo of "recruitment"-because it requires manpower, and you think it is a decent job. A more complex approach to bottom-up planning includes assessing your current needs (salary, work hours, benefits, work location) and personal qualifications (education, skills, and experience ), in order to find out which level of work is most suitable for you. Then you may need to write a resume to start looking for a position that you feel competent, or develop a freelancer and/or a business based on your abilities. In your thinking, what do you ask: "What kind of job should I get ?" Or "what kind of work can I do ?"

In reality, bottom-up career planning is widely used. When people make any serious career plans, they almost always adopt bottom-up strategies. Writing resumes is basically a bottom-up process.

Have you ever performed a career evaluation? It is also a bottom-up method. When I was in high school, I did a kudd career interest evaluation. It was a long choice question designed to help you decide which profession is best for you. There are some strange questions, such as: "Do you prefer to watch an opera, attend a political gathering, or watch a shooting ?" Then compare your answers with various occupations in the database. The results will tell you which kind of career is suitable for people with similar thinking patterns, so I guess the assumption is that you will be the most happy among people like you. This seems to me a bit like the beautiful new world. By the way, the three jobs that best suit me from kudd's evaluation are: 1. programmers, 2. forest workers, and 3. Mathematics professors. One unfortunate limitation of the kudd evaluation is that it cannot recommend a profession that does not exist during the test. However, I guess this profession may be very similar to that of bloggers; they all need to ensure the safety of "Trees.

After we got the results, a smart friend of mine became a joke-Because kudd's evaluation showed that he was best suited to work as a bricklayer. As far as I know, he may be setting up a network server company.

 

Top-down Career Planning

A top-down career plan means to explore your deepest self (either emotional or spiritual ), then find out the best way to express and share the core value to the external world. This is a high-level objective planning method.

A very simple top-down plan is like this: "I agree with the concept of courage, so I want to create a career that gives me courage ." However, you can certainly go deeper into your own values, personality, and other emotional factors to come up with a more detailed career concept. In your mind, what you ask is: "Who is the real self ?" Or "how can I share my core and inherent values with the world ?"

Top-down career planning is far less common than bottom-up approaches. Top-down methods are sometimes used in the art field, such as music, painting, and drama, but even so, they are rarely seen as being consciously executed. For example, you decide to become a musician because you love music. However, because the core of your life is completely quiet and the decision to express peace is top-down, and the creation of peaceful music is one of the many media you can use to express.

Many people have completed such activities as clarifying their values or writing down their mission statements, but they seldom take this step to the end until they truly turn those core ideas into full-time work. That's why you see people with missions such as "I want to use music to teach people unconditional love and sympathy" are doing retail.

Bottom-up vs. Top-Down Career Planning

Bottom-up career planning begins with the actual, low-level, and material aspects of a career. It regards salary, qualifications, security, morale and potential as the most important basis for development. Once you have these appropriate factors, you can enjoy them as much as you can.

Top-down career planning starts from the high-level, spiritual, and emotional aspects of a career. It regards creative self-expression as the most important basis for development. Once you have a creative way to express yourself, you can solve practical problems in developing personal skills, earning income, and other material needs.

Both policies have their own advantages and disadvantages, so it seems wise to adopt a compromise method. I don't suggest you take the same weight for both methods, but believe that the best career plan should be 80% from top to bottom and 20% from bottom to top.

What is the 80-20 plan? It means you need to focus most of your career planning On discovering yourself, understanding your core values, and deciding what you really want to express to the world. This result is mainly a goal statement that can resonate deeply with you. Once you have this, you have already finished the 80% journey.

For example, Erin knows that she regards sympathy as everything. She is very clear about this. She knows that whatever form of her career entity is, it must be centered on expressing sympathy and compassion. Otherwise, she is not expressing her true self. If she is in a profession that does not focus on expressing and sharing sympathy, no matter how qualified she is, how high she is paid, or how many other aspects seem perfect, she will never be happy. If she knows this, she can continue with top-down planning steps to explore different expressions, such as blogging, providing intuitive inquiry services, and helping others in forums. As long as she understands the core values she needs to express, integrate low-level elements, including developing her skills through education and time, and finding a way to earn enough income from her work, it is not difficult.

However, when I first met Erin in 1994, she worked as a secretary. Before that, she held many secretarial posts. Why? It is mainly because she can play more than 90 words per minute. If she has been using a bottom-up approach, she may eventually become an administrative assistant. It is very suitable for her qualifications and experience, and can well meet her material needs, but the Secretary's work is difficult to express her core values of sympathy. Interestingly, her typing skills have helped her a lot in blogging.

If you put the bottom-up plan before the top-down plan, you will put the carriage before the horse. This method does not produce sufficient clarity. This is not a good way to build a complete career, it is like looking at the Earth to explore the stars.

I see the consequences of over-using bottom-up planning in my mailbox every week. The final outcome is often sad for those with qualifications, skills, and compensation needs as their career centres-even from an objective standpoint, they seem to be doing well-but they are chaotic. When people get what they are looking for, they find that what they are looking for is wrong. This is cruel. 10-20 years later, they were dying, and the soul was urging them to stop everything ...... They are constantly turning to a profession that can better realize creative self-expression.

Because you can do something and get a high salary, it doesn't mean you should do it. Don't confuse your media and messages. If you are pursuing a career that allows you to express yourself as much as possible, you will be more fulfilled. Then conduct self-education, practice, and build your skills to express your career until you are extremely satisfied with your material needs. It may take some time, but if you do express yourself, this process should be interesting and pleasant.

This is your ideal career: sharing real life with the material world through creative self-expression. However, to achieve this goal, you must first discover you. Moreover, you can choose a media of expression (such as a traditional profession), such as being a doctor or writer, only after you decide what you want to express first, or entrepreneurs are truly meaningful.
