The immune system is lazy and ignores the virus, but instead saves the carrier.

Recently, the BBC has made such a news

See this news, the elder brother also confirmed a bit, it here aids refers to AIDS. and the original source of the news is from the science magazine, it seems to be quite reliable.

So, it sounds very scary aids, specifically for the human immune system of HIV, really one-tenth children can be natural immune to it?

What is a natural immune method?

The so-called "natural immunity" means that exposure to HIV virus also has immunity ability, not be infected?

That's not true.

The law against AIDS is precisely what happens after HIV infection. The title of science's own research will be a good illustration of this-

No progress in HIV-infected children and non-pathological SIV infection share the same immune mechanism.

Infected, but immune? What do you mean?

After testing in South Africa for children infected with HIV but who did not use any antiretroviral therapy (ART), the researchers found that 170 children had a viral load of ~10^5 in their blood, but the immune system did not respond with a response that was supposed to be intense, low-or even largely unresponsive.

While most children are infected with HIV, the median time for AIDS progression is 1 years (adults are 10), and 60% of deaths are 2.5 years. These viral loads are large enough, but the immune system is blind to the virus but children whose condition does not progress, HIV does not disrupt their immune system, their CD4 cell count is maintained at normal levels, and for a longer period of time they will not progress to AIDS patients or death outcomes.

The idea behind this is that, for this part of the child, HIV does not disrupt their immune system, even though they have massive amounts of virus in their bodies, but they get along with the virus peacefully.

The viral load of the 170 children with no progress in HIV was changed with age.

Currently these non-progressing children CD4 cell counts and viral load conditions, you can see the CD4 cell count at a minimum of 750/cm³, the average of nearly 1000/cm³. And the researchers found that the number of their CD4 was not affected by viral load, but rather normal physiological changes were observed.

Don't bother with the virus's immune system can help?

In fact, some researchers have also noticed that about 10% of children have abnormal HIV infection for a long period of time, but no one can explain the principle. The authors of this article argue that the immune system has a lower or even largely unresponsive response to HIV, and that the mechanism should be similar to that of a natural primate after HIV infection (but there are some differences in the specific immune-factor response).

(One of the primates that can coexist with HIV: African green monkeys)

Image point is that adults and other children after HIV infection, the immune system detects the invasion of the virus, the whining jumped to the virus. Unfortunately, HIV-specific human immune cells, rushed to the immune cells were culled, the immune system will increase the intensity of the virus, so is repeatedly defeated the situation, the final immune system is completely finished, the whole body exposed to other harmful pathogens. AIDS patients are not killed by HIV, but die from other disease factors.

In such a way, it can be understood that HIV has no other role than destroying the immune system. As long as the immune system and it can coexist peacefully, let it stay in the body is not serious.

Philip Goulder, a professor at Oxford University, commented: "These children's immune systems are actually trying to ignore the viruses as long as they can." Most of the time, the immune system chooses to go to war with the virus is bad. ”

  Why a child? Adults, okay?

Such automatic progress is only occurring in children with HIV, the researchers believe, mainly because children have more flexibility and greater tolerance of the immune system. A similar case is that the immune response caused by the varicella virus in younger children is different from that of adults, which often has more severe symptoms.

This means that with the natural development of the body's immune system, these children will lose this "no progress" privilege after a certain age, and the disease is likely to progress to AIDS.

This program, which ignores the virus in order to get along peacefully without immune damage, is completely opposite to the current treatment-suppressing the virus to a sufficiently low dose and then making the immune system undetectable. So the researchers say it's a new door to AIDS control and treatment. If this "disregard" and "no progress" can be effectively sustained, HIV infection will become harmless.
