Shortly after KDE Plasma 5.7 was released, the KDE development team announced the development plan for KDE Plasma 5.8. This version will be an LTS version, as far as I know, this should be the first LTS version of KDE history. This also means that KDE Plasma 5.8 will focus on performance and stability, and will maintain a minimum of nine minor versions, with a maintenance period of up to 18 months, which includes 2017 years a year and lasts until 2018 years.
The LTS cycle of KDE Plasma 5.8 is exactly the same as that of the QT 5.6 used in the LTS cycle of--kde Plasma 5.8, the smallest version of Qt that relies on QT 5.6. The Beta version of KDE Plasma 5.8 will be released on September 29-just two days after the release of the last maintenance version of 5.7 5.7.5, and the official version will arrive on October 18.
KDE Plasma 5.8 brings many improvements, but the most compelling is that support for the Wayland display server will eventually be completed. |
