Knowledge System Required by designers

In the face of complicated and huge manufacturing systems and diversified markets, product designers must have both breadth and depth of their knowledge systems. Design is a step-by-step and continuous process. Therefore, we are faced with an staggered discipline system and in-depth technical exploration. When the domestic industrial design education sector is still enthusiastic about whether design is art or technology, it may be a step back to think that design itself is both integrated and independent, both dependent and irreplaceable. Looking at the whole society, we are designed for our life or lifestyle. Therefore, we love life and have a delicate experience and a sensitive sense of touch in our life, which is the basis for becoming a good designer.

So what should we learn? How can we build a strong knowledge system in our hearts for design implementation? The following are the ten principles of Dieter Rams design. A brief and general language reflects the diversified design orientation:

1. Good design is innovative;

Good design is innovative;

2. Good design makes a product useful;

Good design makes the product useful;

3. Good design is aesthetic;

Good design is aesthetic;

4. Good design helps a product be understood;

Good design can help you understand products;

5. Good design is unobtrusive;

Good design is modest;

6. Good design is honest;

Good design is honest;

7. Good design is durable;

Good design is persistent;

8. Good design is thorough to the last detail;

Good design goes to the last detail;

9. Good design is concerned with environment;

Good design is symbiotic with the environment;

10. Good design is as little design as possible;

Good design is as few designs as possible;

Dieter Rams, a designer who has influenced several generations of designers, extracts excellent designs into the most essential language. We break down these ten principles and combine the related orientations to draw out the five orientations of 1-1: functions, forms, concepts, attitudes, and responsibilities.

Figure 1-1 the ten principles of Dieter Rams design are divided into five

In most cases, the distribution is uniform for all directions, and the design requirements of Dieter Rams are equal. I am a designer. Then we will associate with the relevant knowledge discipline to observe the entity nodes of the design knowledge system.

From Figure 1-2, we can find that the Knowledge System of the designer consists of two parts: engineering and business. Engineering is well understood, including physical and chemical engineering disciplines and interactions. These are directly related to the functional properties of products and are also the core part of the designer's attempt to communicate; business includes marketing and marketing, which helps designers gain insight into market needs, develop new product functions, or make corrections.

Figure 1-2 five subject nodes

In addition, we sometimes confuse aesthetics and modelling knowledge in forms. It can be understood that aesthetics is a sufficient condition, that is, as a designer, they must possess aesthetic knowledge and have a good aesthetic. Styling is a necessary capability. One of the main activities of design is styling. Therefore, designers need to create beauty while recognizing beauty. The concept has the widest scope. In addition to some ways of thinking that can be summarized in a language, the concept is largely associated with its own background knowledge, such as the social environment, working atmosphere, and way of thinking of designers. Attitude is also a social orientation. From a horizontal perspective, we can think that attitude is the source of a style, or we can see the designer's world view and
Values.

Finally, it is the designer's responsibility, which is becoming more and more important in today's society. After going through commercial projects, design behaviors directly affect society and lead to inter-social connections. The designer's work is closely related to things, mutually beneficial and win-win, consistent with society, and harmonious coexistence with the environment. Therefore, the designer is responsible for the design, avoid resource waste caused by over-design, and explore new methods in the design to obtain products that are more conducive to social development. Therefore, designers should not only focus on designing the knowledge system, but also understand the responsibilities they should assume.

Start with pleasing to the eye

Because of its technological orientation and social significance, the design is changing with each passing day. The most direct and quick channel for designers to obtain design information is the Internet. In the past five years, there have been great changes in the dissemination of design information. We can find that the design is no longer the target of the niche market, but is becoming more and more popular. More and more people are willing to pay for visual consumption and creativity. This is a significant signal.

In the editor of tvbs magazine tide 2010 Love design, the design needs to be promoted by the mass media. The design was originally designed to have no boundaries and is a natural need of every social person, however, it has been shelved for a long time. For the design industry practitioners, this is a one-sidedness. Designers can more easily obtain new design consulting from Internet media, at the same time, the increasing popularity of Public aesthetics also reminds design practitioners to pay attention to the increasingly professional mass consumer market. Designers should first learn to read pictures, first cultivate high-quality aesthetics and the ability to analyze pictures. In layman's terms, that is, to improve the horizon, it is possible to be extraordinary.

For example, table 1-1 design websites are generally divided into the following types: design integrated portal, industrial design classification portal, and design blog.

Reading not only pictures, but also words-the designer's bibliography

Thanks to the development of science and technology and the accelerated pace of life, the advent of the image reading era poses a huge challenge to text books. As the most precious product of mankind, text has always been irreplaceable. Text can convey a more systematic, comprehensive, and acute view than pictures. At the same time, its unique organizational relationship can convey to us more accurate and delicate than the image. While browsing a large amount of image information, reading a large amount of text can reap the creative ideas of designers to a greater extent, and can obtain a systematic and consistent knowledge system. If you can read a group of books, it is of course the best, but due to time and experience constraints, we may have to select the appropriate text, targeted to learn knowledge.

I will mainly classify product designers into the following categories: user research, design thinking, methodology, product design technology, design hand-drawn, design and business. These books aim at narrow design. If you want to associate design with the whole society, you also need to read a large number of books on Philosophy and Sociology. Regular reading of design magazines is also a good habit for designers with limited free time.

User Research

There are currently few books on product design research, and a large amount of information needs to be summarized from the daily design process. In the field of interactive design, user research is increasingly standardized. Product designers can use the descriptive language of users in the interaction design theory and the role subdivision of user objects to assist themselves in the study of user behavior patterns.

Although the book "change as needed" in the recommended bibliography focuses on design, it is not based on the elaboration of how the design work should be done, unlike general design books. It is a book that inspires readers to think. This book simulates, simulates, and presets a situation to understand the "requirements" and the real demands of users. This book also lists many examples of success or failure, and points out that success is successful because of concern and failure.

Alan Cooper, author of The Second recommended bibliography interactive design path, has always adhered to the design and engineering process of the "user first, silicon wafer second" principle. Using this method, the technical team can do the right thing in the first place, so that better products can appear faster. In terms of product design, the product is black-box as a whole (black-box product means that you can only see the result through some operation. Rather than understanding the intermediate process), design tends to be deprecated, and it is necessary to understand how electronic technology bridges with users. In this way, we can jump out of a single product form to grasp the essence of the design object. In addition, the "about" Edited by Alan Cooper and Reimann R. And Cronin D.
Face3 Interactive Design essence also provides effective user research theories and methods, and is also suitable for product designers to read.

Design Thinking

There are very few books describing the design method. Most books, even directly named "design thinking", violate the freedom of thinking in terms of content. The book describing design thinking must not be a list of regular methods, but a heuristic guide.

Design in design this red-edged Design book explores the root of design and human life thinking, and permeate a strong philosophical feeling. A Japanese design guru, Mr. Yan Zai, faces "Daily Life" with a pair of eyes that ignore the rapid development and changes of the external world ", look for what is needed for his design with modest but sharp eyes, and place himself precisely where his intent can be given to life. As our daily lives are getting stuck, he is keenly aware of design expectations and signs, and consciously challenges the Unknown fields. Today, China is also facing a series of problems brought about by sustained economic overheating. This is exactly what many developed countries have experienced. How to design and take responsibility in such an environment is what many domestic designers are seeking for now. In the "design-the original research and design exhibition" and a series of activities, the original research appeared in China and conveyed the design idea of rooted in national exploration source for Chinese designers, once again, this "empty" design idea is pushed to the climax.

After the "design in Design" is all-embracing, Mr. Zhu once again translated the "design in Design, mr. Zhu once again translated and published Mr. Tian zhongyiguang's "design awakening", which is the same as the plain writing method as the original books such as "Why design" and "muyin Liangpin" of ambu yinguang, the aesthetic, thinking, and innovation consciousness are embodied in the White Paper. At Northwestern University on the other side of the ocean, Professor Donald a Norman of computer science, psychology, and cognitive applied his unique academic background from the perspective of a design enthusiast, I wrote "I Am a designer design" and "design psychology", and won a round of applause. I was hailed as the master knowledge achievement developed by the western education model.

Design psychology clarifies the people-oriented design principle: users should be clearly aware of how to operate, and consumers should be able to enjoy themselves rather than suffer setbacks. This book deserves careful reading by every designer. Although it was published in 1980s, its meaning is similar to that of thinking. Like the former, the emotional design published in the future is based on the different dimensions of instinct, behavior, and reflection, this paper expounds the important position and role of emotion in design, and deeply analyzes how to integrate emotion effect into product design. The United States, which advocates Scientific and Practical practices, uses a different objective world perspective to cut design, and strives to present the root cause of design to the public without losing itself in the style ocean.

Design Method

Many books of design methods appear as textbooks, which are rigorous, standardized, but not active. As one of the world's top design institutions, IDEO provides a series of design cases for more people in the design industry. IDEO's "Idea Story" describes how they brainstorm, focus on which point in the design requirement, how to simulate during the design process, and collaborate with others to extract the effects of 1 + 1> 2. Now it is turning around, taking the lead in providing service design, and working together with customers. The figure associated with IDEO moggridge published another key design report by Bill moggridge) we will bring readers closer to more than 40 designers in this field and present them with their experiences, so that the key development context of modern science and technology design can be clearly presented.

We have recommended many foreign design books because the industrialization process of advanced countries is earlier. We can stand on the shoulders of giants to learn about advanced design thinking books, its fundamental purpose is to bring Chinese design to an international stage. There are also some good books in China. I would like to recommend Mr. Liu Guanzhong's book The principles of science. Liu Guanzhong is a pioneer in China's industrial design. He has been practicing the theory of science in design education, this theory is the theoretical basis of system design. Liu Guanzhong elaborated on the essence of design activities from a dialectical point of view. His book is a classic book of design theory.

Design Knowledge

The Design Knowledge series can be subdivided according to the design knowledge system, such as hand-painted and craft. Hand-painted as the basic design skills are a "Kung Fu work" that we all value very much ". The Design of hand-painted education has gone through three times. For example, the first generation adopts the standard painting represented by Qingshui jizang. This regular design is strictly hand-painted, but lacks a sense of freedom; the complex node painting represented by Scott Robert son in the second generation, the smoothness of the lines and the activity of the objects make many designers crazy. The third generation, represented by Liu chuankai, the design divergence process is embodied in a simple and quick way, and the form is fresh and tense. Like a designer's handwriting, hand-drawn pictures must be individually labeled and should be closely linked with the design process, rather than simply stuck in the form. Product design hand-painted techniques: from creative ideas to product implementation techniques strategy beyond the list of general hand-painted books, starting with the relationship between light and shade and form, combined with the success stories of the top design institutions, we achieved the interconnection between hand-drawn products and actual products. As wonderful as process: 50
Product designs from concept to manufacture selects 50 wonderful product design cases, describes each design process in detail, and highlights the special new materials and corresponding processes of the product. By describing the process of product birth, readers can see the latest well-designed "past and present ".

An important vane of product design is the application of new materials and new processes. At present, the Chinese version "Product birth: from concept to production of 50 typical products" has been launched in China. If you need a more professional introduction, the recently published tool-based craft book, manufacturing processes for design into sionals, has not yet been published in Chinese. Designers who need to know about new materials and new processes can refer to "analysis of typical product design process cases", this book is a comprehensive application of five design materials, metal, plastic, wood, metal, and ceramic. Unlike the five major design material books, this book analyzes materials and processes from the product perspective according to the product shape.

Nowadays, more and more publishing companies are aiming at the design industry, and the pace of introducing design books abroad is accelerating. This greatly shortens the time difference between design information in China and design information in foreign countries. This is undoubtedly a good thing for designers.
