Layer Hierarchy Relationships

In the previous section we have felt the image of each layer, there is a hierarchical relationship, the level of the most direct embodiment of the effect is occlusion. The layer level below the layer palette is lower and higher on the upper level. It's like getting stacked up on the table. The image content at a higher level will block the lower image content. We went on to continue to learn the face image made above, and can also click here to download the sample PSD file.

The way to change layer layers is to drag the layer up or down in the layer palette to cross multiple layers. As shown below, we move the nose layer below the face layer, and note that the destination of the drag is located at the seams of the face layer and the background layer (the red line in the figure). So the nose layer is invisible because it is obscured by the face layer.

Note: As long as you make sure that the nose layer is selected, even if it is invisible because it is obscured by other layers, you can still move 〖v〗 through the mobile tool. So later if you move the layer using the Move tool and you find that no layers are moving and Photoshop doesn't report the error, it's likely that you're moving a layer that's blocked by another layer.

If the nose layer is moved out of the pixel range of the face layer, it can be "in the daylight".

You can also select a layer, and then change the layer hierarchy with each command in layer _ Arrange and the corresponding shortcut key.

One of the 〖ctrl_[〗 is to move to the lower level, forward 〖ctrl_]〗 is moving to the high-rise. This concept can be understood as the image erected up to hang on the wall facing us, then the original higher levels of distance we are relatively close, that is, more than before. The original lower level is farther, that is, the more lean. So the forward one layer means to raise a level, in the layer palette is to move up one layer. instead.

The top 〖ctrl_shift_]〗 is moved directly to the highest level, and the bottom 〖ctrl_shift_[〗 is moved to the lowest level. Notice now that even if we use the command to move a layer to the bottom, it's still on top of that background layer. This is determined by the special nature of the background layer:

1: The background layer is at the bottom level and the level cannot be changed. Cannot move, cannot change opacity.

2: The background layer can be directly converted to normal layers, ordinary layers can also be merged into the background layer.

3: The background layer does not have to exist, but a picture can only have one background layer.

If you want to change the level of the background layer, move it or change the opacity and other actions, you must first turn the background layer into a normal layer. By pressing ALT, double-click the background layer directly in the Layer palette to convert it to a normal layer called layer 0. The following is the left figure. You can also double-click on the background layer in the Layer palette, which appears as a dialog box on the right, entering a name or a direct confirmation.

Just said that the background layer does not have to exist, if the new image when the background content selected as transparent (the red arrow below), you can create a no background layer, fully transparent empty image. A layer in a layer palette thumbnail that is a transparent area (the green arrows below). We used to create a new image when we chose the white background, because the image will be created after a white color, compared to the type of transparent block pattern, it will be more comfortable visually. In the later study we still build a white background image most of the time.

Now that you can create new layers, you can, of course, delete existing layers. The most common method is similar to removing a channel from the previous lesson, dragging a layer from the Layer palette to the Trash button, as shown on the left. This delete method does not need to select the layer in advance, according to the bottom left, in the current selection of the nose layer, do not need to select the eye layer, you can drag it directly to the Trash button to complete the delete operation.

In addition, you can press the DELETE or backspace button to delete the selected layer. Of course, before you delete, you should see if you choose the right choice. The way to select a layer is to click in the Layer palette or press the CTRL key with the move tool to click in the image.

If you click the Trash button after you select a layer, you will receive a prompt to confirm the deletion as shown in the following right image. If you check the "Do not show again" option, the same action will remove the layer immediately and no longer prompt. If you want to turn on the prompts again, you can click the "Reset All Warnings dialog box" at the bottom of the "Edit _ Preferences _ General" 〖ctrl_k,ctrl_1〗.

The slowest and most primitive method that almost no one will use is "layer _ remove _ Layer".

All of the above methods have a feature that, in addition to dragging directly to the bin button, you must confirm that the current selection is correct before deleting it. The selected layer can be either single or multiple.

Note CS and earlier versions use the above deletion method only for individual layers, and if you want to use these versions to remove multiple layers, you can indirectly achieve the goal by grouping the merged layers and layers that are described later.

We recommend that you do not arbitrarily delete the layer in the actual production, you should first be hidden (click on the layer palette of the eye logo), after the production is completed before deciding whether to delete. Hiding and deleting are the same on the screen, which is one way to retain the most editorial flexibility for the work.
