Let the SSD speed fly. Solid state HDD Optimization techniques Daquan
However, the other aspects of SSDs are obvious, so it has become the necessary hardware for most users installed. In terms of usage, SSD is slightly different from the traditional HDD, and it is necessary to go through a series of settings if the SSD is to really perform its performance. For example, turning on ahci,4k alignment, installing a dedicated driver, using the native SATA3.0 interface, and so on, is more complex than the traditional HDD. From a large number of evaluation data is not difficult to see, improper use of the method, will greatly affect the performance of SSDs and life. Therefore, a proper understanding of some of the common small knowledge of SSD, you can better play the performance of SSDs.
1:SSD different Interface installation display
At present, the interface types of SSD are mainly SATA3 (6Gbps), msata,m.2,pci-e these four kinds. SATA3 (6Gbps) interface supports desktop, notebook platform. mSATA and m.2 interfaces are used for notebook platforms, and some high-end motherboards also support these two kinds of interfaces. The Pci-e interface is used only for desktops.
Solid state hard Disk interface type
The current SSD mainstream interface, or the SATA3 (6Gbps) interface, their number is very much, is also the most common.
The mSATA interface is also a common SSD interface that uses SSD for mSATA interfaces, mostly for laptops, but a few desktop boards also support mSATA interfaces. So the mSATA interface is not dedicated to a laptop computer.
In addition, the mSATA interface has been replaced by a more advanced m.2 interface, and the M.2 interface products are also used for laptops, and the same few desktop boards support the M.2 interface. Because I do not currently have this m.2 interface products, so the actual effect, do not comment on.
PCI-E Interface Solid State Drive
The SSD products that use the Pci-e interface are relatively small, and the products that use this interface are more expensive.

The Yu-Zhan PT910 SSD in the above image uses the PCI-E 2.0 X2 interface. Compared with SSD using the SATA3 interface, the number of SSD using the Pci-e interface is very small, which is usually difficult to see.
Desktop computer Chassis
SATA3 (6Gbps) interface SSD wants to use on the desktop, need to use hard disk bracket. Most desktop chassis currently have hard drive brackets with 2.5-inch SSD support.
Notebook Solid State Drive
Notebook Installation SSD diagram
Compared with high-end notebook computer, now mainly support M.2 interface, mSATA interface of SSD products. But most laptops also support the most common SATA3 (6Gbps) interface products. Generally speaking, notebook computer only has one SATA3 (6Gbps) interface, want to use SATA3 (6Gbps) interface of SSD product, can only take down the original HDD hard drive of the notebook computer, replace the SSD product of SATA3 (6Gbps) interface.
2: Select the motherboard with SATA3 (6Gbps) native interface
SSD hard disk to the motherboard interface type is required, must be SATA3 (6Gbps) interface to play its performance. The previous SATA2 (3Gbps) interface was able to work, but could not really play out the performance of SSD drives. The SATA3 (6Gbps) interface is divided into original and additional chip two kinds, and the performance of the chip is inferior to the original, the SSD hard disk speed has an impact. So it's best to use the native. In addition the data cable is also used to support SATA3 (6Gbps). (Intel South Bridge supports SSD better than AMD, so if you want to experience SSD performance, the preferred or Intel motherboard.) )
SSD solid-state drives need to be equipped with SATA3.0 interface boards
At present, all new motherboards are supported SATA3 (6Gbps) interface.
3: Achi option to open SATA interface in BIOS
The current mainstream motherboards are basically the default open achi option. However, a few motherboards, as well as old motherboards, have to go through the BIOS setting to manually change the default IDE option to the Achi option.
Achi diagram in BIOS open
The current mainstream motherboards are basically the default open Achi option, only those old motherboard does not support.
To see if SSD opens the Achi option method
How do I see if SSD turns on the Achi option? Typically, you can view it in the BIOS. Of course, you can use as SSD benchmark this software to view. As shown in the red box above, if the word "OK" appears, the Achi option is turned on.
4:4k Alignment
You can use the Disk management tools built into the win7,8 or WIN10 system directly to format the operation. 4K alignment is automatically achieved after the format operation using the win7,8 or WIN10 system's built-in Disk management tool. You can also use a number of professional hard disk partitioning software to achieve 4K alignment. For example, the Diskgenius (hard disk partition), the partition assistant and other software can be 4K aligned operation.

The new SSD can be used for 4K alignment with the partitioning assistant when used for the first time.
Diskgenius Solid State Hard drive 4K alignment settings
You can also use the Diskgenius (hard disk partition) for 4K alignment operations.
See if SSD 4K alignment diagram
How do I see if your SSD is 4K aligned? You can generally use as SSD benchmark this software to view, as shown in the red box above, if the 1024,2048 such as the following numbers with "OK" words, the SSD has 4K alignment. If the word "OK" is not there, the 4K is not aligned. If the number in front of "OK" is very large and is not a number such as 1024,2048, the hard disk divides the hidden partition when the operating system is installed. A 100M hidden partition is automatically generated when the system is win7 during installation.
A 350M hidden partition is automatically generated when the system is win8 during installation. As long as you do not keep the hard disk hidden partition before the C disk, the "OK" front will show numbers like 1024,2048. If you keep it, the number in front of "OK" will become very large.
Supplemental Note: The new SSD hard drive will automatically snap to 4K when the Win7 or WIN8 system is installed, but the hidden partitions will also appear .
For WIN7/8 hidden partitions, Microsoft's official explanation is:
1, BitLocker rules, the boot file and Windows files to separate. This system partition can use utility software, such as backup, to support dual-boot scenarios.
2, to prevent accidental deletion, if the startup file is saved in the system partition, it is easy because the system partition of the reload activity, and the format of the loss of these startup files. The drive does not have a letter that is good to prevent accidental deletion of the boot file.
The downside of WIN7/8 hidden partitions:
1, can not use the Ghost version of the system CD to install WIN7,WIN8, can only use the installation version of the step-by-step installation.
2, after the installation of the system, can not use Wingho, Onekey Ghost, such as a key to restore the type of software to carry out system backup. 3, Norton Partition Magic not normal use, if you try to repair this 100m,350m partition, will cause the installed WIN7,WIN8 can not boot. 4, with 100mb,350m partition of WIN7,WIN8 activation will be greatly reduced, will affect the system's activation probability. )
How do you not hide partitions when you install SSDs? The easiest way to do this is to do a hard disk partition for the new SSD. Instead of partitioning the operating system when it is installed.
5: Select the appropriate SSD driver
For most SSD products, the win7,8 operating system comes with a relatively stable drive. Drivers do not need to install the user, installation of the operating system will automatically complete the drive installation. The Intel RST driver is relatively capable of improving SSD performance, but requires the user to download the installation themselves.
Installation and selection of solid-state hard drive
Intel RST drive can be easily downloaded from Intel's website.
Download the latest SSD driver
Intel RST driver recommends or downloads the latest version of the bug in the old version.
Solid state HDD Driver installation diagram
After installing the Intel RST driver, a Restart prompt dialog box appears. This indicates that the Intel RST driver has been installed and completed.
SSD driver version detection diagram
As SSD benchmark software red box in the "MSAHCI", which represents the drive for the Win7 operating system with its own drive. The word "Iastora" in the red box represents the driver for the Intel RST drive. With Intel RST driver, the performance of the Toshiba DTS312 128G SSD is significantly improved, and the overall performance is much better than using the Win7 system with its own drive.
This means that the Toshiba DTS312 128G SSD is more suitable for Intel RST drive. (Typically, most SSD replacement Intel RST driver can improve performance.) However, a few SSD, with Intel RST driver, performance will be reduced. So choose your own SSD to fit the drive. )
6: Don't let SSD load
To keep a certain amount of space (10% of the capacity in the SSD is reserved), this is more conducive to its performance. And the full load of solid-state drives will be more likely to collapse. (Because of the main control, some SSD load will not lose speed, and some SSD full load is a serious drop.) )
7: Turn on the trim command
The trim command is also called disable delete notify (disable deletion notification) and is a technical instruction of the ATA8-ACS2 specification. You must ensure that the trim instructions are turned on in the system when using SSD. Trim instructions are Win7 and WIN8 systems with the technology, the system is open by default, and XP or the following version of the system does not have the trim technology, does not recommend the XP system using SSD.
How do I know if trim is turned on in your computer?
Click the Start menu and enter CMD in the search field;
Right-click on the icon for the search results and choose to run with administrator privileges;
Enter "fsutil behavior query Disabledeletenotify";
If the return value is 0, your trim is turned on
If the return value is 1, your trim is turned off
Note: not all SSD support trim, some SSD may not be supported.
What if 8:4k doesn't align? (No reload operation system required)
In general, removing the hard drive and then zoning again, 4K alignment is the most convenient. However, if you do not want to reinstall the operating system, you can use the Paragonalignmenttool software for lossless alignment. (Note that important information to be backed up is not necessarily a success.) )
Solid state HDD does not have 4K alignment solution
On the left is your hard drive, the right side, then, is the description, if the green is displayed, it is already aligned 4 K, and the display of yellow, you can align 4 K, but not aligned, and pink, is not supported advanced format, that is, the alignment of 4K is useless. Select the yellow misaligned hard drive, tick, and then click the Align Partitons below.
When you are aligning the system disk, it will reboot, jump to Dos to align, this process depending on the size of your hard disk and usage, the fewer files on the hard drive, the faster the alignment, suitable for not aligned but do not want to reload the system friends. In this process, the computer does not power off, the alignment program does not force the stop, otherwise it may cause the hard disk damage! In addition, please note that the backup. (Because my hard drive is all 4K aligned, so I can't do a detailed demo, you can find the relevant instructions on the Internet.) )
4K alignment method for solid-state drives
Other software, such as the Section Assistant, can also be 4K aligned.
9: What do I do without AHCI mode? (Win7 system how to open AHCI mode introduction)
For SSDs, to increase speed, in addition to 4K alignment, it is to open AHCI mode. If you are installing the system with a completely new CD-ROM format, you can set the hard disk mode to AHCI mode directly in the BIOS and automatically load the AHCI mode driver from the CD as the Win7 disc is provided with AHCI Drive.
If it is a U disk installation, the installation process will not automatically load AHCI driver, so the BIOS directly set the hard disk mode for AHCI will not recognize the hard drive (the old motherboard will generally appear this problem, the latest motherboard basically does not have this problem). When you install with U disk, you have to set the hard disk mode for IDE compatibility mode. Reset after installing the operating system. If the AHCI driver is not installed, the hard drive mode in the BIOS can be changed to AHCI mode, and the blue screen will appear without the operating system. Below I will introduce the Win7 system how to open AHCI mode.
This method is also applicable to the normal IDE compatibility mode to AHCI mode, not limited to USB disk installation. If you are installing with a CD-ROM and you are using IDE compatibility mode and you forget to set up AHCI mode, you can also modify it using this method.
The workaround is as shown in the following illustration:
Use IDE mode to enter the system normally, then open the registry and change the "Start" key value under "HKLMSYSTEMCURRENTCONTROLSETSERVICESMSAHCI" to "0" (the default should be 3). Then reboot, set the hard drive mode to AHCI in the BIOS, and you can go to the desktop.
--Change the "Start" key value to "0"
When the "Start" key changes are complete, reboot the computer, set the hard drive mode in the BIOS to AHCI, and then restart the computer to enter the operating system.
After the computer restarts, open Device Manager, in the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller entry, you will see the "Standard AHCI1.0 serial ATA Controller" option, which indicates that AHCI mode is open.
After entering the system, Win7 will automatically install AHCI driver, then just wait patiently.
10: Optimize the setup of the operating system
SSD hard disk wipe life is limited, such as mechanical hard disk set method, turn on System Restore, use defragmentation and so on, will be very hurt SSD hard disk. So disable the unnecessary operating system features. But one manual disabling can be cumbersome, so using some optimization software can be a lot easier. For example, this is called SSD Fresh SSD hard disk life optimization software, it is very practical. Here to recommend to you.
SSD Fresh 2015 is a professional SSD solid-state HDD optimization tool, can reduce the SSD disk reads and writes the number of times, greatly lengthens the service life! SSD fresh works by turning on or off some of the system's features related to SSD performance and longevity, such as shutting down the disk index, turning off sleep, and turning off virtual memory.

Figure 4
SSD Fresh can turn off the following system properties to extend the problem of short SSD life: Disk indexing, defragmentation, file access time, pre-read, defragment boot file fragmentation, Windows event logger, System Restore, 8.3 naming support, turn on Trim feature, AHCI Setting Note that each of the above properties in the SSD fresh have a detailed text description, please read carefully before the selection of the appropriate.
Click "Optimization" can start a single optimization operation, select "All optimization" can automatically optimize the SSD, the selected item after the circular icon from red to green, indicating has been optimized successfully.
