I recently wanted to toss my Linux system itself, like a Linux cut or a transplant. It's a hassle to cut or migrate Linux, and it can affect the current system after an error. How can you not affect the system on the current machine, and then think of the virtual machine. Install the virtual machines in the current system and toss them in the virtual machine.

Before installing a virtual machine, we first have to select a virtual machine. Linux is the common virtual machine is wine, strictly speaking, it is in the simulation of the Windows environment, I want to toss the Linux system, so give up the wine.

I used to use VMware, needless to say, it is a powerful virtual machine, but it is commercial software, need to buy to use, so also give up VMware.

Finally, I chose the vitualbox, it is compact and practical, and powerful, the most important is that it is open source software. Using open source software in the Linux world is the perfect thing. Next I'll talk about how to install the virtual machine. Install virtual machine: VirtualBox 1. Open the terminal and switch to the root account, and then enter the installation command:

Apt-get Install VirtualBox 2. Install the recommended packages: (You must install this package, or you will not see the application's icon)

virtualbox-dkms Virtualbox-source VIRTUALBOX-QT 3. When the installation is complete, you can see the VirtualBox icon in your application. using virtual machines: VirtualBox 1. Create a virtual machine .
Click the New button in the menu to start creating a virtual machine;

2. set the type of virtual machine.
Select the name, type, and version of the virtual machine that was created in the pop-up window and click Next. I was going to toss about the Linux system, so I chose the 32-bit Ubuntun, as shown in detail in the following illustration:

3. set the virtual machine memory.
Set the size of the virtual machine memory in the pop-up window, you can write numbers directly, or you can drag the ruler to select, and then click Next when the settings are complete. Memory is of course the bigger the better, but not the current physical memory. My physical memory is 4GB, so I set 1GB memory to the virtual machine. Detailed as shown in the following figure:

4. set the hard disk type of the virtual machine.
Select "Create virtual hard disk Now" in the pop-up window, and click Create, then pop up a window, select the type of virtual machine hard disk in the pop-up window, I choose the VDI type, then click Next. The vid type we selected is a hard disk image that will create a VDI type of file on the current computer, as detailed in the following figure:

5 Set the virtual machine's hard disk capacity.
Select fixed size in the pop-up window (this allows you to use the system's performance better.) And then click Next, a new window pops up, setting the capacity and location of the hard drive in the window. When you are set up, click Next. This process lasts about 1-2 minutes, and the virtual machine is finished with the creation after the hard drive is created. The hard disk files are stored by default in the Home/usr_name/virtualbox vms/directory. The size of the hard disk is not necessarily too large to be sufficient. I am ready to install in the virtual machine is ubuntu14.04lts, for this system, the official recommended hard disk capacity is 8GB, actually use 12GB will be better. Detailed operation is shown in the following figure:

6. Create a virtual machine successfully.
The virtual machine was created, which is equivalent to simulating a computer where we can install the system we want to toss. The following is the virtual machine thumbnail I created.

We then install the Ubuntu system in the newly created virtual machine, and I am ready to install a relatively new and stable system, so I choose Ubuntu14.04lts. I have described in this blog series How to install Mint using a virtual machine, and the process of installing Ubuntu is exactly the same as installing mint. So the detailed installation process I will not say, if you are not clear, you can click here to refer to my previous blog.

About the virtual machine is introduced here, there are other use of skills, and then share with you.
