As an established fast-start application under OS X, Quicksilver released the 1.0.0 Official Edition on March 26, ending the beta test status of 10 years since it was published in 2003.
Like Alfred, Launchbar and Butler, Quicksilver provides fast search features similar to OS X Spotlight, but more powerful and richer in scalability. Keyboard input allows a user to open a program, open a file, or perform other more complex automation tasks without relying on the mouse.
Compared to earlier versions, the official version of Quicksilver initially supports the retina screen resolution, adding a new "add to Catalog" action option, and allows users to set a memorable "synonym" for a target, including a number of detail improvements.
During the last 10 years of the beta update process, Quicksilver experienced a shift from closed source to Open-source, and the main developers changed from the original author to Google employee Nicolas Zhitkov (Nicholas jitkoff). In the meantime, it has maintained a considerable size of the user base. Quicksilver version 1.0 needs to be run on 10.6 or newer OS X systems, English interface, students who want to experience can be downloaded from the official website.
