frontpage| Site FrontPage 2002 is a lot better at site management than previous versions of Fronpage, not only for individual users, but also for corporate sites that control huge networks. In addition to the folders in the View bar, navigation, hyperlink three buttons corresponding to the traditional management functions. New FrontPage improvements and new features include:

FrontPage 2002 gives users full control of their Web site-from its appearance and behavior to how to edit and manage the content of the site. With its complex site management and usage profiling capabilities, this latest version of FrontPage redefined the boundaries of the WEB authoring tool. Users can now track how they access and use the site, and control how the code is imported and edited (something that was not previously possible). The FrontPage editing environment has become easier to use, making it easier for users to access all site management and navigation features. The new release features not only provide greater accuracy and flexibility, but also greatly increase the speed of publishing. In addition, FrontPage now allows users to thoroughly control what resources on the site can be accessed and edited, and who has the right to do so.

access and analyze data for better management of site effectiveness and performance

Usage Analysis reports can help users better understand who has visited their sites. By referencing URLs in daily, weekly, or monthly reports, the feature allows users to quickly understand which pages are clicked most and how customers find their sites. These reports can be exported to HTML or Microsoft Excel, and can be filtered and made into graphs to show the exact information the user wants.

§ From the View menu, select a report, select Usage, and then select a report from the Drop-down menu.

§ If there is no data in the report, "Usage analysis" may not be activated on the server. If you have administrator rights, select the server from the Tools menu and choose Manage Home page. Scroll down to the Configuration usage analysis setting, and then click Change Usage Analysis settings.

§ If you don't have any data in the use Analysis report, remember that you must first publish your Web site before you can have the site visitor register the results.

Using FrontPage to enhance your reports, you can monitor your site's performance by quickly finding slow or unlinked files or pages and broken hyperlinks. With FrontPage 2002, you can also automatically filter the report and export the data to HTML or Microsoft Excel.

From the View menu, select a report, and then select one of the reports from several report options to filter and export to an HTML page or Excel.

Accurately control how the HTML code looks and works

The Active Server page (ASP) source code retention feature enables users to edit content in a page that contains ASP code without interfering with ASP code. FrontPage 2002 now always opens an ASP page in normal view, regardless of whether the ASP code violates the Convention (for example, multiple or markup).

If you have an. asp page on your computer, you can open the page (file, open, URL of the page), and you can see that it is open in normal view, which you can perform edits.

The optional reformat HTML feature allows users to tell FrontPage how their HTML pages should be formatted-how much to indent before each tag and whether to use optional tags. The new feature in FrontPage is the ability to get a page that has been imported to the Web and reformat the page according to the user's preferences.

§ Sets the HTML formatting preferences. Select the page Options from the Tools menu, and then click the HTML Source tab. Under the Tag scroll box, select Body, and then change the indent to 12 spaces. Click the Color Code tab and change the flag to purple, and then click OK. FrontPage will change the HTML pages created in FrontPage to use these formatting rules. To change the HTML format of a Web page that imports a site with HTML retention turned on, switch to HTML view. Right-click the page and choose to reformat HTML.

Publish and protect your Web site accurately and flexibly

The Enhanced Publishing dialog box makes publishing easier by allowing users to see the pages and files on the source site and from the Web page and file on the target site. This feature allows users to drag, drop, or delete files in both locations.

From the File menu, select the publishing site. Type http://servername/directory (here, servername is the name of the target server for the publication, and directory is the target directory). When you go to the Publish Web dialog box, click the Show >> button to display the contents of the server you want to publish to. You can click the file and drag it from the source to the target site, or you can click Publish to publish all new or changed pages.

Single-page publishing can help users publish what they want only when they need it. Users can right-click a file in the Folders view and publish it directly to the WEB server.

Open a site in FrontPage to make sure that the Folder List is open (view, Folder List). Right-click any page in the folder list (or use Ctrl + click to select multiple pages) and choose to publish the selected file.

New, more granular permissions allow users to grant or deny access to individuals and groups through a "role-based" security model. In FrontPage, there are now more roles for users to better control who can access content on their site.

From the Tools menu, select the server, and then select Permissions. If your site is using a FrontPage 2000 Server extension, on the Settings tab, choose to use unique permissions for this site, and then perform a dialog box to customize the permissions on the site. If your site is using Microsoft SharePoint team Services or FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions, after you select the server and permissions from the Tools menu, use the Web-based Administration pages to manage or add users, and to add or manage roles.
