The award-winning CG artist Jaime Jasso will take us to learn how to make a super integrated 2D background "full photo" work. Manually adjust and place each scene in Photoshop.

My initial idea was to make a place that looked peaceful but fraught with danger. I made about 70 photos of this work. There are some places that are drawn entirely by themselves. Because I want to integrate these photos into one piece, these pictures have been changed a lot.

There are some mistakes in the perspective of the picture, but the work is to tell you some of the places you should be aware of when composing pictures.

Ideas and sketches

Inspired by a cool waterfall postcard from my friend back from Argentina. This inspired my desire to create, and I began to increase land for this waterfall. In the first sketch, I considered using some small, structural-net-Chailai to connect these huge Gothic buildings. Then I made a synthesis of the picture and plotted some structural relationships between the building and the waterfall.

Then I scaled the castle, but found that the castles were a little bit bigger than the waterfalls because I needed to make the picture look more peaceful, not a sense of oppression. So I decided to change the design of the castle, and I used a smaller church to make a "spiritual city". Subsequently, I have been adjusting the color of the sketch and the feeling of the picture. I decided to use a dark, mysterious weather to replace the night. Otherwise, there will be a lot of detail lost in waterfalls, trees, and shades of temples.

Synthesis process

The first step is to set the resolution of my work, I use 3500 pixel wide, mainly because these pictures are downloaded from the Internet.

Key and difficult points

Atmospheric effects

I used a photo as my reference to see what the atmosphere was like in the wild, and after looking at the pictures, I noticed that the objects in the distance would lose their contrast and become white long. When I started working on the picture, I didn't use the mist to dim everything in the distance. Because I want to imitate the real sky of those details. I tried to imitate the reality of the weather, the distant hazy and there can be seen a little thing to see the phenomenon. In the end I saved some details from the distance.




Architecture

In the course of making, I studied the structure in depth. In Jerusalem and Turkey I found some great mosques for me to refer to. I've done a lot of searching for high quality mosque pictures. It took me a few days to get the picture I wanted.

Waterfall

In this section, according to my needs I am looking for a lot of high quality waterfall photos. I found some great pictures of Niagara Falls, which made me feel better about the perspective.

Finally, I also found more than 150 high quality photos on many websites. So now, what are we supposed to do with those pictures? How do we put it? How can they mix better?

Natural

I used 20 different waterfall photos to make this waterfall. I used a lot of replication, and tried to seamlessly connect, mix all kinds of silt for the waterfall, and I copied more water in the distance in order to get a perspective on the water.

When I finished working on the waterfall, I began to add some small island with big trees to sleep. These are pictures of some small jungle and trees that I've taken from some of the pictures to splice. After a while, I have put most objects on the surface of the water, and in the place they are exposed to the production of some details, trees and other objects in the water shadow and reflection will be described in detail below.

In order to appear real, I have to increase the impact of water on the shore, to complete the combination of woods and water.

Then I used two layers to mix to make the sky. I made some adjustments to the two not-so-full photos and brightened them up to make them clearer and less contrasting. The mountains on the background are my hand-painted, to pay attention to reflection, distance and brightness, I first outline the shape of the mountain, and then add a suitable color simple.

The waterfall behind is added later, between the city and the temple, I added some water vapor. These are also hand-painted, simulating the splash of water from the fall. So you can't see the river.

Temples and cities

I used some architectural photographs and began to synthesize the land into the works. The tower ahead was not in my original sketch, that was when I looked up the image on the internet and I thought about it. I modified the following color and shape to remove its initial shadow and add the sun.

The temple behind the bridge was drawn entirely by hand, because I had never found a picture of that perspective relationship in that position. So I only draw myself.

For the middle of the city, I carefully adjust its structure, and a little bit to synthesize it. I chose the photo, and then I tried a lot of the photo position.

I originally found a very good quality building picture in the middle of the position. I have to mix all the buildings and let them have the same weather. I will use color and saturation to adjust the temples. Change the brightness/contrast/hue and saturation to make them more hazy. I also reduced the amount of light that the sun shone through the clouds, some of which were used to increase the halo effect of sunlight into the mist, and to increase the level of the building.

I Garu more and more pictures in the background of the city. I used them to use the same brightness to reduce their contrast. However, I still need to add some more step 鄹 to make these background pictures and buildings look better. First, I draw the high light, the sun from the left, so the sun is very important. And then, in the new layer, I sketched the central part of the high light. Then change the layer's blending mode to "color." Now the high light layer and basic building layer have been filtered out. Below let us adjust the overall effect and level of the picture.

The prospect of adding and mist

In order to make the picture more natural, angry, I added 3 birds, these 3 birds are I took down from the picture. Add a little blur to simulate motion blur effects.

In the original sketch, there was a tree in front of the picture, but the tree was less necessary than the tower. But I will still add some trees, but not the whole tree. Those branches were hand-painted and I used a black-blue gradient. I just want to give the branch some transparent effect.

In the beginning of a tree, now seems unnecessary, I added a new layer plus a white transparent test gradient, the sky above the things mixed into this weather.

Post-processing

In the late processing, I just made some minor color correction, green as the tone of the work, I also added a special film effect.

Finally, it modifies some transparency, color, and size. All of the above image processing is done in Photoshop.
