Settings stored in the Default.rdp file

By default, the Default.rdp file is created in the My Documents folder. The following RDP settings are stored in the DESKTOP.RDP file:

Desktopwidth:i

This setting corresponds to the width of the desktop that you select on the Display tab in Remote Desktop Connection options.

Note: Microsoft Windows CE-based devices only support full-screen mode.

This setting corresponds to the color depth that you select in colors on the Display tab in Remote Desktop Connection options.

Winposstr:s

This setting corresponds to the window location that you selected on the Display tab in Remote Desktop Connection options.

Note: On a desktop computer, this setting determines the location of the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box on the screen. Six numbers represent the string form of a WINDOWPOS structure. For more information about the Windowpos function, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

This setting is not used by desktop computers or Windows CE-based clients.

This setting determines whether the data is compressed when it is transferred to the client computer.

1 Plays a sound on the host computer.
2 No sound is played.

Redirectdrives:i

This setting determines whether the disk drive is automatically connected when you log on to the remote computer. This setting corresponds to the option in the disk drive box on the Local Resources tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

0 The drive is not automatically reconnected.
1 Automatically reconnect the drive.

Redirectprinters:i

This setting determines whether the printer is automatically connected when you log on to the remote computer. This setting corresponds to the option in the Printers check box on the Local Resources tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

0 The printer is not automatically reconnected.
1 Automatically reconnect the printer.

Redirectcomports:i

This setting determines whether COM ports are automatically connected when you log on to the remote computer. This setting corresponds to the option in the Serial port box on the Local Resources tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

1 Automatically reconnect the COM port.

Redirectsmartcards:i

This setting determines whether the smart card is automatically connected when you log on to the remote computer. This setting corresponds to the option in the Smart card box on the Local Resources tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

Displayconnectionbar:i

This setting determines whether the connection bar is displayed when you log on to the remote computer in full-screen mode. This setting corresponds to the option in the show connection bar on full screen check box on the Display tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

1 The connection bar appears.

Username:s

This setting determines the user name that is displayed in RDP. This setting corresponds to the entry in the User name box on the General tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

Domain:s

This setting determines the domain name that is displayed in the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box. It corresponds to the entry in the Domain box on the General tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

Alternate Shell:s

This setting determines whether the program starts automatically when you connect using RDP. This setting corresponds to the entry in the program path and file name box on the Programs tab of the Remote Desktop Connection options.

Shell Working directory:s

This setting is the folder location where applications that start automatically when you connect using RDP. This setting corresponds to the entry in the program path and file name box on the Programs tab of the Remote Desktop Connection options.

Disable WALLPAPER:I

This setting determines whether the desktop background is displayed when you log on to the remote computer. This setting corresponds to the option in the Desktop background check box on the Experience tab of the Remote Desktop Connection options.

0 Display wallpaper.
1 Wallpaper is not displayed.

Disable Full window drag:i

This setting determines whether the folder contents are displayed when you drag a folder to a new location. This setting corresponds to the option in the "Show window contents when dragging" check box on the Experience tab of Remote Desktop Connection options.

0 Displays the contents of the folder when dragging.
1 Folder contents are not displayed when dragging.

Disable Menu Anims:i

This setting determines how menus and windows are displayed when you log on to a remote computer. This setting corresponds to the options in the Menu and window animation check box on the Experience tab of the Remote Desktop Connection options.

0 Allows menu and window animations.
1 Menus and window animations are not allowed.

Disable THEMES:I

This setting determines whether themes are allowed when you log on to the remote computer. This setting corresponds to the option in the Subject check box on the Experience tab of the Remote Desktop Connection options.

0 Allow themes.
1 Themes are not allowed.

Bitmapcachepersistenable:i

This setting determines whether the bitmap is cached on the local computer. This setting corresponds to the option in the Bitmap caching check box on the Experience tab of the Remote Desktop Connection options.

0 Caching is not enabled.
1 Enable caching.

Autoreconnection enabled:i

This setting determines whether the client computer automatically attempts to reconnect after disconnecting.

Value Set up
0 The client computer does not automatically attempt to reconnect.
1 The client computer automatically tries to reconnect.
