Data Mining Technology can extract personal preferences... This information can be used to do many things ....
The US Department of Homeland Security is currently testing a powerful new data mining system, which can find terrorist activity patterns by filtering the vast amount of information on the Internet. But some Members of Parliament and human rights organizations have pointed out that the new system will also pose a threat to American privacy.
The new system is called advise, which is the first letter of English word analysis, distribution, visualization, insight, and semantic enhancement. The advise system can mine information on websites and blogs and compare it with records of intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies.
Patrick lixi, chairman of the Senate judicial committee, pointed out: "as such data analysis systems become increasingly powerful, they are able to collect more and more personal information, while Congress is always lagging behind in their supervision ." In January this year, lixi and several other senator proposed the federal agency Data Mining Report Act 2007, which will require all federal agencies to report their data mining activities to Congress.
