Microsoft announced the opening of its document format
Microsoft announced last week that it will open its proprietary file format out of the principles of interoperability. These file formats include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more. Despite the fact that many other communication formats are not publicly available, we should celebrate the event.
Microsoft's official statement is as follows:
Microsoft recognizes that in an increasingly interconnected computing landscape, enabling interoperability between products from different vendors has become more important than ever. spurred in part by the standards-based nature of the Internet, the computing industry has made great strides toward achieving valid interoperability between a wide range of products to meet customer needs. but MERs are demanding more from all software companies.
For its part, Microsoft recognizes the important responsibilities that it bears by reason ue of the mission-critical use of its products by MERs worldwide on a daily basis. certain Microsoft products (Windows Vista including. net Framework, Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Office 2007, Exchange 2007, and Office Sharepoint Server 2007, and future versions of these products, referred to in this document as "high-volume products") have become so central to operational continuity of MERs 'businesses that interoperability and data portability solutions are more valued than ever.
In fact, Microsoft's intention is also obvious:
1) ooxml is obviously difficult to withstand time tests due to the pressure from open standard ODF of documents;
2) The long-standing monopoly of Microsoft caused Resistance around the world, which is conducive to reducing the force majeure;
3) the market share of the new version of operating system Vista is not satisfactory. The open format helps to bring users to the Windows platform;
4) it is beneficial for Microsoft to combat its peers and expand its leading edge.
Last, I would like to remind you that Microsoft only opens its main Word, Excel, and PowerPoint document formats, not open source ones. to use them for commercial purposes, you should also pay attention to the license issue.
