After learning about the basic concepts and features of the DHCP server, we will explain and analyze the relevant content of the Microsoft DHCP client. Then we will explain its type, information options and internal protocol options.
◆ Options supported by Microsoft DHCP Client
All computers running the following operating systems support the DHCP service:
Windows NT Workstation (all released versions)
Windows NT Server (all released versions)
Windows 98
Windows 95
Windows for Workgroups version 3.11
Microsoft-Network Client version 3.0 for MS-DOS
LAN Manager version 2.2c
By default, DHCP clients running Microsoft operating systems can identify the following two options:
◆ Information options
You can use the DHCP manager to explicitly set the options and related parameters provided to the client.
The following table lists common DHCP options used to prepare and support Microsoft DHCP clients:
Code options
3 Router
6. DNS server
15 DNS domain name
44 WINS server (NetBIOS name server)
45 NetBIOS datatedistribution server (NBDD)
46 WINS/NetBIOS node type
47 NetBIOS scope ID
After the DHCP service is activated, it provides the setting information of the information Option type. After the client receives the setting information, use them to set the corresponding configuration items in the local TCP/IP. By default, all services on the server can be activated and set these option types.
◆ Internal protocol options
These option type parameters are implicitly set through the DHCP service and service attributes of the server.
The following table lists the internal protocol options that Microsoft DHCP clients use when communicating with the DHCP server to update the lease:
Code options
51 Lease Time
53 NetBIOS scope id dhcp Message Type
58 NetBIOS scope ID Renewal Time
59 NetBIOS scope ID Rebind Time
