Modify the Registry to optimize the broadband network settings

I am afraid all my friends who use Modem to access the Internet may have a deep understanding of the snail like speed. To this end, we try our best to squeeze the last drop of water from the kitten.

Finally, I hope that the bandwidth is faster, but it also has problems of acceleration and optimization. Next we will take ADSL as an example to discuss how to optimize the broadband network by modifying the registry.

Step 1: Test the current speed

This step is necessary, because we cannot only view the results by feeling before and after optimization. The most practical thing is to compare the test data before and after optimization.

During the test, you need to find a large file on the server with a high speed to avoid being spoofed by the cached file. You can download the file several times to check whether the time used is similar.

Step 2: optimize the Registry

During installation of the Windows series, the default setting is for Ethernet. Some useless work will be done in the packet forwarding and combination of TCP/IP to adapt to ISP. Although ADSL uses the PPPoE protocol, it has the characteristics of LAN, but it is not completely equivalent to the LAN protocol, so there is still room for optimization. We can use software to modify the relevant parameters in the Registry to optimize the system for ADSL. Specific parameters include MaxMTU and DefaultRcvWindow. This optimization can adapt ADSL to ISP network parameters and maximize the efficiency of ADSL.

MTU is the abbreviation of Maximum Transmission Unit, which indicates the 'maximum Transmission Unit ', that is, the Maximum number of bytes of the transmitted information package during connection. We must find the maximum MTU that does not return fragment (fragment) information. Except that the MTU of ADSL PPPoE is 1492, the MTU Standard settings of other DSL are 1500.

MaxMTU is the largest unit for transmitting TCP/IP data. In TCP/IP, the data to be transmitted is divided into smaller groups for transmission. Each group is 576 bytes in size. In Windows, the default value is 1500 bytes. The PPPoE used by ADSL is slightly smaller than this value, which varies slightly depending on the ISP. Using the default value will reduce transmission efficiency. The location of MaxMTU in the registry is HKEY_LOCAL _ MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ s \ NetTrans \ 00yy. The key name is MaxMTU, where 'yy' is the entry of TCP/IP, it varies with the settings, generally between 00 and 30. You can use the Ping command to obtain the MTU value of the ISP. For example, ping www.yahoo.com-f-l 1500 and send data grouped by 1500 (-l 1500) to www.yahoo.com (preferably your ISP's website ), check whether data fragments (-f) generated by different groups are found. If yes, the group value is reduced and the matched MaxMTU can be found. This value is the most critical part of ADSL optimization.

DefaultRcvWindow is the size of the default transmission unit buffer. The value Size is related to the Modem speed, preferably an integer multiple of MSS (Maximum Segment Size, Maximum number of groups, equal to MxaMTU minus 40 bytes of address information, the position of DefaultRcvWindow in the registry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ VxD \ MSTCP, and the key name is DefaultRcvWindow.

DefaultTTL is the lifetime of a TCP/IP group. If the transmission time of a group over the Internet exceeds the lifetime of the group, the group will be discarded. Changing DefaultTTL to a greater value facilitates further transmission of information over the Internet. The position of DefaultTTL in the registry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ VxD \ MSTCP, and the key name is DefaultTTL.

After modifying the registry, restart the computer.

Step 3: test the new speed

After the above modifications, ADSL has been optimized. We can go to the following special evaluation website detection speeds:
