Some time ago, I was asked to reflect on this problem, so the continuation of the idea did a further troubleshooting.

Phenomenon: A xenserver on the normal operation of the process, a number of virtual machines into the state of the bright yellow, suspended animation, because the production environment, the administrator directly restart the server, the virtual machine is working properly. But this problem is said to have happened before, stating that it is not a single point, so you need to find the cause of the problem to prevent this problem from happening again.

Preliminary check: The server is Dell R720,xenserver 6.5 SP1 + 005hotfix.

This is a very common set of Dell R720 + XS 6.5 SP1, compatibility should not be too big a problem, R720 certainly in the Citrix XenServer Compatibility List.

The virtual machine ran less than 10 units, and the load was not high. So it will not be caused by high loads.

Analysis: Export XenServer report via Xencenter and upload to Citrix Insight Service (CIS) https://cis.citrix.com, Use Citrix's Back-end database (which requires a Mycitrix account) for a deep analysis of this xenserver. The results found some valuable information.

A total of 7 alert was found through the CIS system. One of these alert looks very relevant to our problem,

Displays an error message about Deadbeef, which is related to the VM's card-dead problem. Two KB is returned, but after the visit the solution is found to correspond to the old version of the XenServer and is not applicable to version 6.5.

Further to the discovery of https://bugs.xenserver.org/browse/XSO-399 on the public network, it is suggested that this problem is caused by the non-application of the NIC driver. The Broadcom network card used on the Dell server is mentioned here, and the configuration of the failed server configuration is very similar to that found and listed.

Follow-up monitoring for several months, no more similar problems occur.

Summary: For XenServer, his kernel Dom0 is actually a CentOS Linux, his layer of hardware communication, processing mechanism, such as: Nic/hba card is the same as a common Linux system mode. So, just like a normal Linux operating system, although he has a lot of hardware drivers, but many times the hardware driver needs to upgrade to solve including compatibility issues, performance issues, including some problems.

1. Before the implementation of the project, please make sure that the server, HBA card, network card in the XenServer Compatibility List, http://http://hcl.xensource.com/

2. If you encounter similar instability, compatibility issues, visit the Https://www.citrix.com/support Web site, check the corresponding network card, HBA card if there is a new driver disk can be upgraded. Of course the server's BIOS is also to be retrieved.

3. Through the CIS website, you can get richer and more detailed reports, ensure that we have an effective analysis, and more quickly identify the potential cause of the problem.
