Floppy disk my floppy drive broke down as early as a year ago. Have played many Linux, most of which can be started from the CD-ROM installation. But some of the D CD can not start, or from the Internet to download the ISO CD image files, I do not have to install the floppy disk? The answer is yes. Below I have a few Linux distributions from the hard drive to start installation experience, and we discuss together:

1, I said no floppy installation refers to from pure DOS to Linux installation. That means you have to have a partition that can start DOS. (c: If you want to note that in the boot DOS can not load any program.) (because I have tried, in many cases, loading redundant, such as optical drive drive, etc., may cause the following installation can not continue)

2, RedHat Linux hard disk installation method: RedHat the first CD-ROM (or ISO CD-ROM image file) \dosutils directory All to C:, and then start pure DOS (with Win98 or Win95 dos mode can be started, to the same below. ) To run again:

C:\>\dosutils\autoboot (enter) can be transferred to Redhat Linux installation.

3, Mandrake Linux installation: In Mandrake Linux Installation kit does not provide loadlin.exe files. You can get this program in other Linux distributions, such as you can extract from the Redhat Linux 7.x CD-ROM/dosutils directory (inconvenient to find online redhat resources to download. Then locate the kernel and the image file: Under the \isolinux\alt0 of the second disc or the second ISO image file. respectively named: Vmlinuz and All.rdz, including Loadlin.exe, all of them to the C:\ dosutils. Then execute in DOS:

C:\dosutils\loadlin Vmlinuz Initrd=all.rdz ramdisk_size=32000

If you are afraid of reloading and trouble later, you can make autoboot.bat files for it in imitation of Redhat!

4, SUSE Linux installation: SUSE also not like Redhat as the folder dragged down and then run Autoboot on the line. However, Loadlin.exe files are available in its release. Under the \dosutils\loadlin of the first CD or the ISO disc image. Cuff it to the C:\dosutils. And in the CD-ROM (or ISO image files) \suse\images\ boot directory, respectively, the kernel file Linux and installation image file Initrd are all copied into the C:\dosutils. And then run:

C:\dosutils\loadlin linux root=200 RW 2 initrd=initrd
